The trading deadline is over, the roster is pretty much set for the remainder of the season with the exception of call-ups, so with nothing left to talk about on this board other than the games themselves its time to vote! What grade would you give to Brian Burke for the job he did at the 2008 trading deadline?
What grade would you give Burke for his performance at the 2008 trading deadline?

Noone can possibly know better than Burke what is best for this club.
I'd like to see someone explain why they know better.

None of us can possibly know better than George W. Bush how to handle the situation in Iraq, but that doesn't mean we don't question him.

I think he did a great Job, we have a deeper Blueline now with Bergeron and he is A LOT better then DiPenta as maybe the 7th dmen!
And we did not had a good third Goalie for the most of the season, but now in Aubin, we have it, maybe! Great Job again, and he came here for a 7th round pick!
And then he got a defenseman for Portland, and they needed one, too...
And he traded away Bochenski, so we can let Carter in Anaheim, great Job again.
And the best is, that we still have the first rounder from Edmonton and that COULD be the best thing Burke has done. We have the Chance to get another Getzlaf. Pefect...
So overall, i think has did a great job at the deadline..

I voted B, but only because I felt I was only going to vote "A" if there were significant improvements to the team at the NHL level. Depth movements and help for Portland allowed for an above average "B" rating.
It sounds unfair, but there wasn't a lot that the Ducks could do to improve to begin with, so it's not surprising.

I gave Burkie an "A" because he didn't just jump on the TD Bandwagon, and actually excused himself from having to do so by massaging our Prodigals and navigating the minefield that is Cap Management. We wound up with Scott Niedermayer and Teemu Selanne as a result. Anybody do any better than that?
Nobody questions that Colorado's signing of Forsberg was a TD deal, yet somehow don't recognize that Teemu coming back is the exact same thing, and Scotty is close to it. It must be the "instant gratification" obsession of our society that causes us to look at it like only deals done in the last few days before the TD qualify.
Ask Uncle Fat Feaster down in Tampa how that worked out for him not dealing with his problems in net or behind the bench for six months, and wound up being a seller instead of a buyer at the TD. No way in hell that team should be out of the playoffs.

I'll vote him a "B" mainly because he didn't address our primary need in getting a 2nd line center at least for the short term(the net 1 or 2 years). I thought that the Bergeron deal was absolutely pointless to say the least given the fact that we were already stacked on the blueline as it is and adding Bergeron in here is just going to make things harder for guys like Mitera and Salcido to get in next season and beyond. Even if Portland wanted a defenseman, I just don't think that Burke should go out of his way to get a $1.5+ mil. player to play in Portland. Besides, Burke traded for an AHL d-man already in Jay Leach. I just don't think the Bergeron deal was necessary. On the other hand, I'm neutral with the Aubin trade seeing that Aubin is still a quality and viable AHL goaltender and a solid #3 if needed. It's just that we've never made a trade with our crosstown rivals before this. It feels wierd but hey, Burkie treats his teams like an entertainment business and I still believe that he's here to make a profitable, successful, and competitive franchise of a hockey. Trading Bochenski for practically nothing gives leeway for more AHL call-up options i.e. Ryan Carter. And finally, I'm glad that Burke keeps the 1st and the 2nd round pick and with a little luck, hopefully we can have a shot at least Kyle Beach nevermind Steve Stamkos.

No way in hell that team should be LAST in the East. They couldn't even get 60 points with Lecavalier, St. Louis, Richards, and the good version of Vinny Prospal. All that momentum from their cup run is probably close to spent and it won't bode well for the Lightning if they can't get in a good season next year.

Short term: Doug Weight. Long Term: Ryan Carter. Problem solved.
