Big big biiiig night for the Capitals. If they beat Carolina they'll be tied for the division lead, tied 4-4 in the series even, although Carolina has an extra win so they'll still be on top. From then on the Caps basically just have to hope that they win one more game against Tampa and Florida than the Canes win against Tampa and Florida. They can also hope that one of Boston, Philly, or Ottawa just starts to suck, but that's less likely. One thing is for sure, if they lose tonight they have no chance at the division and almost no chance at making the playoffs at all, and if they go to overtime they might as well kiss their hopes goodbye as well. If they're tied with Carolina in the final minutes of the third period, I look for Boudreau to pull his goaltender.

Edit: Pregame Caps show just pointed out that the Caps are 24-11-3 since the mid-point of the season, 12-4-0 in their last 16, 8-1 in their last 9. This is a very good team now, If they get the third seed, I like them against whoever the 6th seed is and I like them as the dark horse in the East.

Caps win, 4-1! Great game, they dominated nearly the whole thing. Here's to hoping they win one more than Carolina over the next 2, and that Ottawa, Boston, and Philly suck from here on out. Ottawa's doing it for us right now. The way this team is playing, it would be such a shame if they missed the playoffs, cause they could cause some real trouble.

When I saw your post I was kind of excited to see his jersey. Sadly disappointed however...
Sorry

Also on the Thrashers site, they refer to him as just LaVallee. His full name and the name listed in the NHL Players pages is LaVallee-Smotherman.
I suppose they shortened it for the jersey and other official purposes

I think we need to start talking about Ovechkin having the best season by a left winger in NHL history. He's tied Robitaille's record for most goals by a LW in a season with 63 and still has two chances to break it, against defensively horrible Tampa Bay and less-than stellar Florida. Robitaille set his record in 1992-93, when the top dozen scorers all had more than 100 points, 3 players had more than 63 goals, and Selanne and Mogilny both got 76. Ovechkin is setting his in a season where only 2 players (probably) will end up with more than 100 points and the closest goal scorer is 10 goals behind him and the 4th best goal scorer (which is what Robitaille was in 92-93) has 16 (!) fewer goals. Although the Caps' offense is firing on all cylinders right now, for the first half of the season Ovie was essentially playing by himself, and yet he'll still end up as the NHL goals and points leader. Today's game is much more defensive and goaltenders are much larger and better than they were in 92-93, and yet Ovechkin has still tied the all-time LW goals record. Incredible. It would be criminal if he didn't dominate MVP voting.
