TSN's Ice Chips:

QUOTE
goducks1ux5.gif The Ducks ran different lines in practice Friday, as Doug Weight centered Chris Kunitz and Teemu Selanne, and Ryan Carter moved off of the second line and was centering Brad May and Todd Marchant. Weight, 37, was a healthy scratch in Game 1, but if the Ducks follow the same practice lines, it appears Brian Sutherby would be a scratch in Game 2. - Dallas Morning News

Forward Corey Perry participated in practice as he continues to rehabilitate from a severed tendon in his right quadriceps. He reported no pain afterward. - LA Daily News

bos.png Marc Savard, on the third line in the 4-1 Game 1 loss after making his return from a back injury, was bumped to the second line, where he centered Milan Lucic and Glen Murray. P.J. Axelsson, who skated on the second line with Lucic and Glen Metropolit to close out the regular season, was promoted to the first line alongside Marco Sturm and David Krejci. Metropolit, more than two months into a goal-scoring drought, centered the third line between Peter Schaefer and Phil Kessel. The fourth line of Jeremy Reich, Petteri Nokelainen, and Shawn Thornton, which had one of the best scoring chances of the night in the first period by crashing the net, remained the same, with Vladimir Sobotka cycling in for some shifts at center. - Boston Globe

col.png The Avalanche were shorthanded up front after David Jones went out with a left foot injury in the second period of Game 2 on Friday. Andrew Brunette did some double-shifting at right wing the rest of the way. Colorado came into the postseason minus defenseman Brett Clark (shoulder surgery), plus wingers Marek Svatos (knee surgery) and Scott Parker (ankle). - Denver Post

dal.png Coach Dave Tippett said the Stars have to continue to monitor defenceman Sergei Zubov's progress (sports hernia) yet not let it become a distraction. "Don't get me wrong, we'd love to have Zubie back. But he's not part of the equation right now, so we have to concentrate on the task at hand," - Dallas Morning News

det.png After watching Darren McCarty play his first game back with the Red Wings, head coach Mike Babcock didn't think McCarty would be of help come playoff time. "I didn't think he could ever play. I never told him that, but just by watching," Babcock said. But McCarty (seven shifts, 4:58 ice time) has worked hard in the weight room, on and off the ice, and Thursday was in the lineup. "He has good hockey sense, and we're optimistic he can help us. He knows how to play," Babcock said.
Chris Chelios tied Patrick Roy for most playoff games played, 247, by playing Thursday against the Predators. - Detroit News

min.png Minnesota lost right wing Branko Radivojevic early in the first period of Friday's game when he landed awkwardly on his leg and back after being checked by Paul Stastny. Radivojevic returned to play four shifts in the second and 10 in the third before limping off the ice favoring his right leg late in regulation after slamming into the end boards.- Rocky Mountain News

mon.png Saku Koivu's latest exam Wednesday did not reveal any setbacks. Head coach Guy Carbonneau says the captain's recovery is going fine and normal, but still needs time to heal.
Francis Bouillon skated Saturday despite being told to take 3-4 complete days' rest. According to Carbonneau, Bouillon was really sore, but felt better today and took to the ice for 10-15 minutes. He also said that if it was Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals both would try to play. - TSN

nsh.png Nashville forward David Legwand, bothered by a deep bone bruise in his left foot, is doubtful for Game 2. "It's been better every day, and I've been on the ice for longer every day," Legwand said. "It's a matter of comfort level of being in the skate boot for a long time." If Legwand can't go, Nashville may call up former Red Wing Josh Langfeld - Detroit Free Press

Forward Scott Nichol broke his left thumb in Thursday's Game 1 loss to the Red Wings and will miss the remainder of the playoff series, leaving the Predators without one of their top penalty-killing forwards and top face-off winner. - Tennessean

nj.png Devils' Zach Parise had to go to the dentist after the game after having his two front teeth knocked out by a crosscheck from Rangers defenseman Christian Backman in the second period. Backman received a high-sticking double minor, but Rangers coach Brent Sutter said he though Backman deserved a cross-checking major. - Bergen Record

nyr.png The Rangers dressed the same lineup as in Game 1, meaning defensemen Marek Malik and Jason Strudwick, plus winger Petr Prucha, were the scratches. Colton Orr (broken toe) was out as well. - Newark Star-Ledger

phi.png Patrick Thoresen was hit with a shot in the testicles during a crucial third period power-play goal from Mike Green. Thoresen was being evaluated for surgery last night. "There's a good chance they may have to remove one [testicle]," general manager Paul Holmgren said. - Philadelphia Inquirer

It appears that Derian Hatcher's rehab has not gone as well as the Flyers had hoped, and the veteran defenseman will not play in Game 2 Sunday. Hatcher, who is in Washington with the team, will keep practicing, but his target date has been moved to Game 3 next Tuesday --- and even that is a 50-50 chance. - Delaware County Times

pitt.png Defenseman Mark Eaton, who had his right knee reconstructed several months ago, went through his first on-ice workout yesterday, putting in a session with conditioning coach Mike Kadar before the Penguins' game-day skate at Mellon Arena. Eaton hasn't ruled out trying to play again this season if the Penguins' playoff run lasts long enough, but has a lot of work-both to recover from his surgery and to upgrade his conditioning-to do before a comeback moves beyond the theoretical stage. - Pittsburgh Post Gazette

sjs.png Sharks coach Ron Wilson has long argued against a more relaxed standard of officiating in the postseason."The playoffs are an extension of the regular season, and we play by the same rules," Wilson said. "There's not a red rulebook for the playoffs and a white one for the regular season." - San Francisco Examiner

wsh.png Defenseman Shaone Morrisonn and center David Steckel returned from injury for last night's playoff opener against the Philadelphia Flyers. But the injury news wasn't all positive. Jeff Schultz, another defenseman and a key contributor on the penalty kill, missed Game 1 with an undisclosed injury and his return for tomorrow's matinee remained uncertain. - Washington Post

HAHAHAHA @ Hasek

He felt a Nashville stick tug on his leg so he just immediately sprints to the bench thinking that it was a penalty on Nashville, but the ref didnt call a penalty on the Preds player. They called Hasek for diving laugh.gif
It was an empty net for a good 6 seconds

2 quick goals for Nashville!!
one on the aforementioned power play, now a funny bounce and a breakaway

Detroit has got to be the luckiest team in the NHL... even though they have the most classless player in the NHL in Chelios.

QUOTE
The Detroit Red Wings took advantage of all their breaks.

Kris Draper's tiebreaking goal went off an opponent, Nick Lidstrom scored when one of his teammates could've been called for a penalty and Detroit beat the Nashville Predators 4-2 Saturday to take a 2-0 lead in their first-round series.
...
The Red Wings didn't have a fan in every seat during their two home games, but did draw much larger crowds than they had last postseason when several rows in some sections were empty.

"We're a team that hasn't hidden behind anything this year and we're not going to start now," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "We'll take the responsibility for our penalties and we'll move on. I guess the only thing that bothers me is the fact that (Reich) took a stick in the face but because we decide not to embellish, it doesn't pay off. I guess you have to embellish to get a call."
