TSN's Ice Chips:

QUOTE
goducks1ux5.gif Ducks' forward Corey Perry skated Saturday prior to game 2 of the Ducks' series with the Stars, however he still was having issues with swelling around the tendon's in his injured quadriceps. He will not likely be healthy enough to return in the first round. - LA Times

bos.png Head coach Claude Julien made Phil Kessel a healthy scratch for Game 2 while Dennis Wideman also missed the game with what the B's termed a lower-torso injury. - Boston Herald

cal.png Craig Conroy and Daymond Langkow switched places and the Yelle-Lombardi-Primeau line is reunited from the regular season. Coach Mike Keenan changed his lines in practice several times without employing those changes in a game, keeping everyone guessing. - TSN

col.png The Avalanche were shorthanded up front after David Jones went out with a left foot injury in the second period of Game 2 on Friday. Andrew Brunette did some double-shifting at right wing the rest of the way. Colorado came into the postseason minus defenseman Brett Clark (shoulder surgery), plus wingers Marek Svatos (knee surgery) and Scott Parker (ankle). - Denver Post

dal.png Coach Dave Tippett said the Stars have to continue to monitor defenceman Sergei Zubov's progress (sports hernia) yet not let it become a distraction. "Don't get me wrong, we'd love to have Zubie back. But he's not part of the equation right now, so we have to concentrate on the task at hand," - Dallas Morning News

det.png After watching Darren McCarty play his first game back with the Red Wings, head coach Mike Babcock didn't think McCarty would be of help come playoff time. "I didn't think he could ever play. I never told him that, but just by watching," Babcock said. But McCarty (seven shifts, 4:58 ice time) has worked hard in the weight room, on and off the ice, and Thursday was in the lineup. "He has good hockey sense, and we're optimistic he can help us. He knows how to play," Babcock said.
Chris Chelios tied Patrick Roy for most playoff games played, 247, by playing Thursday against the Predators. - Detroit News

min.png Defenceman Nick Schultz skated lightly Saturday, just five days after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix. He will travel to Denver to resume his rehabilitation with the team. - Denver Post

mon.png Saku Koivu's latest exam Wednesday did not reveal any setbacks. Head coach Guy Carbonneau says the captain's recovery is going fine and normal, but still needs time to heal.
Francis Bouillon skated Saturday despite being told to take 3-4 complete days' rest. According to Carbonneau, Bouillon was really sore, but felt better today and took to the ice for 10-15 minutes. He also said that if it was Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals both would try to play. - TSN

nsh.png Despite being the Predators top two leading scorers in the regular season, Jason Arnott and J.P. Dumont have been a big disappointment so far in the post season totaling more penalties than shots on goal. - Tennessean

nj.png Zach Parise underwent a root canal Friday night after having his upper two front teeth knocked out by a crosscheck to the mouth from Rangers defenseman Christian Backman. Parise will have to go back to the dentist on Tuesday to see if his front teeth must be completely replaced. - Bergen Record

nyr.png The Rangers dressed the same lineup as in Game 1, meaning defensemen Marek Malik and Jason Strudwick, plus winger Petr Prucha, were the scratches. Colton Orr (broken toe) was out as well. - Newark Star-Ledger

ott.png First line centre Jason Spezza did not take the morning skate Sunday after reportedly jamming his leg in Friday's Game 2 loss to the Penguins. The Sens called up Alex Nikulin from Binghamton of the AHL to take his place in the lineup if Spezza can't play in game 3. - TSN

phi.png The Flyers received good news Saturday as they learned that Patrick Thoresen would not require surgery on his injured groin and could possibly return to the lineup for Sunday's Game 2 against the Capitals. If he can't go R.J. Umberger will likely take his spot on a line with Mike Richards and Joffrey Lupul. Sami Kapanen, a healthy scratch in Game 1, replaced Umberger on the fourth line, teaming with Jim Dowd and Riley Cote. - Delaware County Times

pitt.png Defenseman Mark Eaton, who had his right knee reconstructed several months ago, went through his first on-ice workout yesterday, putting in a session with conditioning coach Mike Kadar before the Penguins' game-day skate at Mellon Arena. Eaton hasn't ruled out trying to play again this season if the Penguins' playoff run lasts long enough, but has a lot of work-both to recover from his surgery and to upgrade his conditioning-to do before a comeback moves beyond the theoretical stage. - Pittsburgh Post Gazette

sjs.png Sharks defenseman Christian Ehrhoff took part in a full practice Saturday for the first time since suffering a lower body injury against Los Angeles on April 1 and hopes to be in the lineup for Game 3 Sunday. - Mercury News

wsh.png Defenseman Shaone Morrisonn and center David Steckel returned from injury for last night's playoff opener against the Philadelphia Flyers. But the injury news wasn't all positive. Jeff Schultz, another defenseman and a key contributor on the penalty kill, missed Game 1 with an undisclosed injury and his return for tomorrow's matinee remained uncertain. - Washington Post

So Perry will not likely be available for the 1st round. That's okay with me. He shouldn't have to been associated with the play that is being displayed anyway.

Calgary, Boston and Washington.

Since I don't like presumptive champions or coronations, if the Ducks don't make it past this round I won't be cheering for anyone, although I will be cheering against a few teams wink.gif

You're not saying that the Caps are either one, correct? Because I haven't heard anyone say that they are.

Yes, I am. Everyone is cheering for Ovechkin to win. To me it's one and the same thing.

Um okay. I think most people are cheering for him because he's a feel good story and he's so fun to watch. He is just so genuine, unlike some other stars in this league. But that doesn't mean his team is favored to win the conference or the Cup.

No difference to me. Mind you, it doesn't bother me when people cheer another team or player. I don't.

Heh I'm rooting for the Caps because I live in DC. Bandwagoners!! Hehehe.

Seriously though... terrible game. The Caps did well in the first period, but this one has been a disaster. In my opinion one of the main reasons their defense is so off today is that with Schultz back in this game, Boudreau chose to sit Eminger instead of Erskine. Eminger is a better defender, but Erskine is a better hitter, and Boudreau presumably wanted that physical play against the Flyers. I think this game has shown that to be a mistake.

The Capitals pulled an Anaheim in this game. Horrible defense, suspect goaltending, no offense to speak of. At least they didn't seem as disinterested as the Ducks did last night.

LOL. Flames radio announcer: "If any Flames player scores 5 goals tonight, so-and-so (insert contestant name) will win a million dollars!" Don't they wish.
