I say in the Cup Final of Pittsburgh vs. Detroit, the Pens will win it...

There offense is awesome and there defense is very good... They have a very good chance...

Philadelphia will win it. After their win against Washington everything is possible.

Washington has won 9 of their last 10 regular season games and Ovie was more than hot at that moment. Only a cup contender was able to beat the Capitals.

Good point added. I think if they pick up these next two home wins, they have The Haps beaten.

Penguins vs. Stars
The physical play of the Stars will overpower the Crosby line and Pittsburgh will be shocked in 6 games. smile.gif
-If your going to get beat in the first round, at least get beat by the team who wins it all, right?

I am the only one here who thinks the Red Wings are going to take it all this year? I don't want them to but I think they will. They are strong and they have (really super old) veteranship. They've destroyed the Stars so far in 3 out of 4 games, and I thought the Stars were doing pretty well!

Well, here's hoping that I'm wrong, I'd love for the Penguins to carry the Cup, or.. any other team but the Wings actually.

that stars, up until Detroit, had not played a team that was playing... at least not playing to their potential.

The ducks were a joke, they acted like those were pre-season games... the sharks were not much better... and in both cases it went 6 games...

then they hit the Wings and get a taste of Playoff hockey... story is the same as it ever was... Dallas can't handle playoff hockey, they just got lucky with their draw of opponents in the first 2 rounds... calgary, minn or Col would have taken em, no doubt.

going forward... the Wings can't handle Pitts offense... even if they manage to concentrate their efforts and shut down Crosby and Hossa, that will just leave Malkin free to run roughshod over Osgood... plus there is the added grit of Pitt... if it was just their skill, i'd say detroit takes it... but they have some serious grit for an Eastern team.... think of it this way

90% of the 07 champion Ducks gritt
150% of the 07 Senators skill...

thats a scary team... the same team that, back in September, i thought was going to take the ducks in 6 games in the SCF... then they added Hossa...
should be a good series, but I still say Pitt in 6

Anyone but Pittsburgh. Nothing against Crosby I just don't want the league to have egg on its face buy sending the cup champions to open the season in Europe again.

LOL i hadn't even thought of that... they are a shoe in!

i badly wanted to see Ducks Vs Pens 'Battle of the Buoyant Water Fowl' in the SCF

they are my two favorite teams...

But if I can't have them both in the SCF, i'll be happy to settle for watching one of them win the cup... again... and doing against Dallas OR Detroit will just make it all the sweeter.

Really though, there may be something wrong with any Ducks fan who claims to not want to cheer on a team that wears Black and gold and is named after a buoyant water fowl.

No matter which team you root for, a Detroit vs Pittsburgh SCF should be about as good a matchup as the NHL could hope for. ( ticket.gif for my timing here)

Besides being the two teams playing the best from each conference, having an original six franchise playing the team with the league's most marketed talent should showcase some of the best the NHL has to offer. As far as a product, this should be good for the NHL and the health of the league.

If Marc-Andre Fleury can keep up the roll he's on right now, it will be interesting. However, the Pens have not faced a team as skilled and well-coached as the Red Wings.

Wings in seven.

Go Western Conference! thumbsup.gif

I think Penguins have it in them to win this thing. Watching their games, you can see a drive in them for victory and I think it will pay off for them in the end. It is clear, in my opinion, that they are hungry for the cup and they are very deserving of it with all their hard work.
Whether they play against Dallas or Detroit, it is bound to be an interesting match-up. I hope to see them up against Detroit because that would be even more entertaining to watch.

And the wings have not faced a team as skilled, as deep or as hungry as the Pens...

great series for sure.

Pitt in 6

Disregard my personal photo (on the left) for a moment...

Let's Go Red Wings!!!!!

Let's Go Babcock!!!

I think in a series like this; awesome D > awesome O... Lidstrom, Rafalski, (whining B****) Chelios, and Osgood and company will be the victors in 5.

LOL, you haven't watched the Playoffs much, have you?

I'd say Pitt is clearly the "Awesome D" AND the "Awesome O"

Let's compare teams:

Goals For / Per game
Wings: 55 / 3.44
Pens: 51 / 3.64
Winner: Pens

Goals Allowed / Per Game
Wings: 31 / 1.94
Pens: 26 / 1.86
Winner: Pens

Power Play Goals / Per Game / %
Wings: 16 / 1 / 21.0%
Pens: 16 / 1.14 / 24.6%
Winner: Pens

Power Play Goals Allowed / Per Game / %

Wings: 9 / 0.56 / .873
Pens: 7 / 0.5 / .873
Winner: Pens

Wins / Winning %

Wings: 12 / .750
Pens: 12 / .875
Winner: Pens

Loses
Wings: 4
Pens: 2
Winner: Pens

Winning % When Outshooting opponent

Wings: .786
Pens: .909
Winner: Pens

Winning % When Outshot
Wings: .000
Pens: .667
Winner: Pens

in fact, it's pretty damn hard to find a stat that Detroit has an advantage in... D or O.

PIM... Detroit win's PIM.
