TSN's Ice Chips:

QUOTE
car.png The Latest from Carolina
Glen Wesley, 39, said Monday he hasn't decided whether to retire after 1,457 NHL games or return for another season with the Hurricanes. "I'm thinking about it and taking my time," Wesley said.
Bret Hedican, 37, is also an unrestricted free agent for whom retirement is an option. - Raleigh News Observer

col.png Head coach Joel Quenneville says Peter Forsberg and Scott Hannan are probable for Game 3 against the Red Wings. He also said Ryan Smyth is out with a foot injury. - TSN

dal.png Head coach Dave Tippett made his most drastic changes in personnel in the playoffs, inserting defenceman Sergei Zubov into the lineup and scratching centre Toby Petersen in Game 2. That meant the Stars had to juggle seven defensemen to find the right pairs, and also had to shuffle centre Mike Modano and Brad Richards onto the fourth line in place of Petersen. - Dallas Morning News

det.png Kirk Maltby has recovered from the hamstring injury that sidelined him through Round 1. Coach Mike Babcock said he would not hesitate to go to Maltby if needed, but Maltby knows that with the Wings on a four-game winning streak, for now he'll be a healthy scratch. "I'm not foolish in that way," he said. "When you're winning, it's tough to change the lineup. I wish I were in the there, but I'm extremely glad the guys who are in are winning." - Detroit Free Press

Johan Franzen, who is becoming the story of the NHL playoffs. Franzen has seven goals in the playoffs but if you go back to the regular season, he has scored 22 goals in his last 25 games. - Detroit Free Press

flo.png Former coach Doug MacLean is interested in returning to coach the Panthers, the same team he coached for four years. MacLean has said he will talk to GM Jacques Martin. - Plam Beach Post

mon.png The Latest on the Canadiens
Head coach Guy Carbonneau would not reveal who his starter will be for Game 4 with the Flyers. "You'll find out at 7 tomorrow (Wednesday)," he said. Carbonneau claims his starter does not know he's going to play in Game 4. - TSN

nsh.png Nashville Predators coach Barry Trotz has expectations that the team’s new ownership group headed by David Freeman will allow the team to once again pursue some high-powered talent to help win a Stanley Cup. - Nashville City Paper

nyr.png Paul Mara manned the point with the first PP unit in practice, which he'll do again Tuesday. "He does have a very good shot," coach Tom Renney said, "and he's not afraid to use it" - as opposed to Michal Rozsival, who can be trigger shy.
As for even strength, Petr Prucha skated Monday on the right side of Scott Gomez, with Sean Avery on the left. That would add speed to Gomez's wing while moving Brendan Shanahan and his 59 career playoff goals down to the fourth line, a move the Rangers tried at the end of the regular season and one to which Shanahan seemed amenable. "I'm still working on this lineup a little bit," Renney said.
Petr Sykora and the Penguins have gotten just a glimpse of the Sean Avery who was the talk of the Rangers' first-round series. Tuesday, when they enter the Garden with a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinal, they expect to see a lot more. "Avery will be Avery," Sykora said Monday. "I expect he will pick up the intensity with the home crowd behind him." - New York Daily News

phi.png Just because the Flyers are immersed in the chase for the Stanley Cup doesn't mean that team officials aren't thinking about the future. When general manager Paul Holmgren was asked about unrestricted free agent Fabian Brunnstrom he replied with an emphatic, "Yes, we are very interested." - Delaware County Times

pho.png The Coyotes signed left wing Brett MacLean to an entry level contract. He will report to the Coyotes' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. - Arizona Republic

pitt.png Gary Roberts is ready to go but head coach Michel Therrien does not want to mess with a winning lineup. Roberts will be a healthy scratch for Tuesday's Game 3. He had missed four games with a groin injury. - TSN

Dustin Jeffrey was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he will join the Penguins' affiliate in the American Hockey League playoffs. - Post Gazette

QUOTE
The Rangers tied it with 5:28 left in the first on Straka’s goal that came when Jagr crashed the net.

After a video review and a heavy scrum that produced six roughing penalties, the goal was credited with Jagr, Brandon Dubinsky and defenseman Paul Mara pounding the glass in celebration from inside the penalty box.

The goal was allowed to stand because the net popped off its moorings after the puck crossed the line.

Seriously are the Pens good enough to win it all? We'll have to see with the physical play that comes out of the West (unless its Detroit of course)

7-0 in the postseason, leading by a huge margin in both goals for and goals against (1.5/game). Four games against the worst team in the playoffs, alright, not surprising, but I'm very impressed with how they've played against the Rangers. I figured they'd win the series, but I wouldn't have guessed they be up 3-0 like this. But I'm also extremely impressed with Dallas and Detroit. For Dallas to be 7-2 against Anaheim and San Jose, even if those teams' players are all on ir with torn motivator cuffs? Very impressive. And Detroit didn't look great in the first round, but man have they looked solid against the Avs, who looked awesome in the first round. Honestly I could see any of those teams winning it all, and I wouldn't put Montreal or even Philly (also very impressed by Philly, who I admittedly underrated) out of that list either. Gonna be a great third round (and end of Montreal/Philly too)!

"I tried to get it on net, it went off a stick. Fortunately, it went in," said Norstrom, sounding as shocked as anyone about his game-winner.

"He would have been real deep in my depth chart," captain Brenden Morrow said with a smile.
...
"He just got it over me and it hit my stick," Roenick said. "It was another bad break. It's amazing how we can't get a bounce in this series."

have you watched the wings play? or are you a person that still thinks the wings are old and slow and not physical?

as i said, they will steam roller the entire east,....

their only challange will be in the finals... and even then:

Pens v Det: Pens in 5
Pens v Dal: Pens in 6

i would love to see them go 16-0... has that ever happened?

but a nice 8-0 would be sweet... maybe they could adopt a certain sea creature... the Wings haven't done it justice in years

No, no, no, no, no!!! I've grown ever so tired of seeing Crosby's mug posted all over NHL.com, TSN.com, the hockey network, etc... if he touches the cup we will never see the end of it. It was bad enough when he scored the winning goal in the Winter Classic. crazy.gif

Besides I think either Dallas or Detroit can... and will beat them.

Go Wings! (now I feal a bit sick).

For the record, I would be fine with the Wings beating Dallas in WCF. Not sure it's going to happen but I'll have to watch a game or two to know for sure.
