TSN's Ice Chips:

QUOTE
bos.png Zdeno Chara had hoped his barking left shoulder would heal on its own. But because of concern the injury might flare up next season, the Bruins' captain underwent surgery Tuesday at Massachusetts General Hospital to repair a torn labrum. Team orthopedist Thomas Gill performed the procedure, which was deemed successful. - Boston Globe

col.png GM Francois Giguere figures to have a full summer, with some tough choices to make. Several players can be unrestricted free agents, and Quenneville remains without a contract for next season. Of the players, deciding whether to re-sign goalie Jose Theodore might be the toughest decision. Theodore had a fine comeback season with Colorado and was the key man in a first-round playoff win. But he didn't shine against Detroit, and his career record in the second round of the playoffs is now 2-17, with 15 straight losses.
The Avs have some key defensemen (Adam Foote, John-Michael Liles and Kurt Sauer) who could leave for nothing if they choose.
Then there's Sakic, who will turn 39 in July. The future Hall of Famer said he does not know what he will do just yet. "I'm going to take some time and discuss it with my family," Sakic said. "It was a frustrating year for me, with the (sports hernia) injury and how it ended tonight."
Peter Forsberg did not retire Thursday night. But unless the Avalanche star can figure out what keeps ailing his 34-year-old body, he hinted after the Avs' season ended that his brilliant but injury-plagued career will be over. "I've got to totally figure out the foot problem first," Forsberg said. - Denver Post

dal.png Stephane Robidas and Niklas Grossman have taken on the responsibility of being the shutdown pair on defense. They're getting a huge dose every night of San Jose's top line of Milan Michalek, Joe Thornton and Jonathan Cheechoo. And that's after tackling Anaheim's Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and Teemu Selanne in the first round.
While most of the Dallas Stars' top players stayed off the ice Thursday, veteran defenseman Sergei Zubov did not. Zubov is still trying to shake off the rust from an injury-filled season, so he worked on a few things with a handful of players. Zubov clearly is not 100-percent recovered from sports hernia injury. In his last two games, he has been responsible for two giveaways that have led to short-handed goals for San Jose's Patrick Marleau. - Dallas Morning News

det.png The Wings were without defenceman Chris Chelios (lower-body injury) in Game 4, who was scratched just after warm-ups concluded. Andreas Lilja replaced Chelios in the lineup. - Detroit News

Darren Helm feels much calmer now than 12 days ago, when the Red Wings looked at him and decided he'd be a key to turning around their first-round series. Since joining the Wings' playoff run in Game 5 against Nashville, Helm steadily has shown why he's such a highly regarded draft pick. Entering Tuesday's Game 3 of the Colorado series, Helm had one assist and an even plus-minus rating in his first four playoff games.
Swedish forward Fabian Brunnstrom was at Pepsi Center on Thursday night to attend Game 4 between the Red Wings and Colorado. It was all part of Detroit's attempt to woo the talented free agent. - Detroit Free Press

mon.png Jaraoslav Halak started for the team in their Game 4 loss. Game 5 goes Saturday in Montreal.

nsh.png Marek Zidlicky has decided to become the eighth member of the organization to play in the World Championship in Halifax and Quebec City, Canada. Zidlicky will represent the Czech Republic. - Tennessean

nyr.png Henrik Lundqvist stopped Evgeni Malkin on a penalty shot in Game 4. Lundqvist posted his second career playoff shutout and it was the second time he had stopped a penalty shot in this playoff tournament, halting John Madden of the Devils in the first round. - New York Times

Rangers agitator Sean Avery remained in stable condition in the intensive care unit of St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan Thursday night, after lacerating his spleen in Tuesday night's Game 3 loss to the Penguins at the Garden. But according to Rangers spokesman John Rosasco, Avery had "no internal bleeding during (Tuesday's) game," and "could be out of ICU by (Friday) if his blood levels are good." - New York Daily News

Blair Betts will have surgery this weekend to repair the orbital bone, which was fractured when struck by a puck in Game 3. - Newsday

phi.png Danny Briere said the Flyers' depth and versatility had helped turn things around. "You look at our team, and we don't have that superstar like the [Alexander] Ovechkin or the Sidney Crosby or the [Jaromir] Jagr," Briere said Thursday. "We are a team that relies on depth," he said. "I think we have different lines that can score and give you that boost on any single night. That is the way we played all year, and it's certainly not going to change now." The Flyers have seven players who had 20 or more goals in the regular season (although when Vinny Prospal arrived in a February trade, he already had 29). - Philadelphia Inquirer

The Flyers have blocked 83 shots in the series with Montreal and 224 in the 11 playoff games.
Jaroslav Modry is expected to return to practice with the team Friday after attending his father's funeral in the Czech Republic. - Delaware County Times

sjs.png Sharks Coach Ron Wilson tweaked his lineup once again for Game 4. He used forward Curtis Brown for the first time against the Dallas Stars and brought back defenseman Matt Carle after making him a healthy scratch the previous night. It was the second consecutive night of lineup changes after Wilson stood pat the previous three postseason games.
Sharks defenseman Craig Rivet said he wasn't feeling any effects from the helmet-to-helmet collision that forced him to miss part of the third period in Game 3. "I got my bell rung, then I just shook off the cobwebs and went back at it," Rivet said. - Mercury News

FINAL SCORE:

Dallas at SJS 2-3 (OT; series 3-2). Dallas led 2-0 and allowed 3 unanswered goals. Morrow had two goals disallowed, one correctly as he punched the puck in with his hand, the other one incorrectly in my opinion.

Pavelski ended it before some fans had even settled in their seats for overtime, dangling in the slot and beating Turco for an unassisted goal.

Evgeni Nabokov stopped 24 shots for the Sharks, and Marty Turco made 19 saves in yet another playoff game to forget. Turco was working on a shutout before he and his defense allowed three goals in less than 15 minutes.

Interesting viewpoint, I thought the one that went in off his glove should've been at least reviewed a little more, it seemed legit to me. I thought he clearly kicked the other one. Also I wonder how many more elimination games the Sharks can win, with not only their season on the line but quite possibly the franchise. That would stress me out crazy.gif .
