Ribiero broke his stick on a swing that hit Osgood in the upper body and might have caught him under or near the bottom of his mask. Ribiero did this in response to a butt end jab by Ozzie on him as he was skating behind the net to the right side of Ozzie.
I smell maybe a suspension for Ribiero. They have to. He broke his stick on a goalie!

It didn't look like much of a poke to me...
Lehtinen collided with Morrow in the first and missed the rest of the game with a leg injury. By the way, it's RibEIro

After watching a replay, Dallas coach Dave Tippett blamed Osgood for the fracas.
"Ribeiro is actually letting up on the guy and Osgood just sticks his stick out and butt-ends him," Tippett said. "Ribeiro is not going to turn around and chop the goalie like that without having something happening.
"I looked at it and said, `What's he doing?' until I went in and looked at the tape."
Tippett was asked if he expected the NHL to suspend Osgood.
"That's for the higher powers to figure out," Tippett said.
Following some scuffling, Ribeiro was called for a match penalty.

There were small pockets of empty seats in most sections in both the upper and lower bowl just as has been the case throughout the playoffs.

Detroit Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood (30) lies on the ice as teammates scuffle with the Dallas Stars at the end of regulation in Game 2 of the Western Conference hockey finals in Detroit, Saturday, May 10, 2008. The game ended in an ugly fashion as Osgood seemed to use the handle of his stick to poke a Stars skater going by and Ribeiro retaliated by slashing Osgood across the chest from behind the net. Following some scuffling, Ribeiro was called for a match penalty.

Not sure what this has to do with the Ribeiro/Osgood incident, but this was mentioned in an article on the Red Wings site.

Last spring, the league issued Anaheim's Chris Pronger a one-game suspension for his hit to the head on Tomas Holmstrom in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals. He missed Game 4 in Anaheim.

Convenient to find a way to drag the Ducks back into the PO's when they've been out for a round. Far be it for the media to focus on the rough, nasty play displayed currently with teams as they develop their edge for the Cup. I guess the Ducks and Burke's bullies were the instigator so we still get the mention.

The Ribeiro poke on Osgood was a cream-puff touch compared to Pronger's hit. Osgood, who appears to be taking diving lessons from Hasek, dove after the poke. I would be surprised if the NHL does anything.

The verdict came early Sunday evening — Dallas Stars forward Mike Ribiero will not be suspended for his love tap, baseball-style, against Detroit Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood as time ran out in the Dallas Stars' 2-1 loss Saturday night. Ribiero received a match penalty for the incident, which meant it was automatically reviewed by the NHL.
Presumably, they saw what Stars' coach Dave Tippett did too — a little provocation from Osgood to set off Ribiero, and rather than suspend one or both, they slapped their wrists and said play on.

I heard on the NHL Network this morning that Osgood, Ribiero, and Ott all recieved fines (undisclosed amounts). Osgood's comment on the incident was, "What's done is done, let's move on". Ribiero was not so willing to let it go. His quote was much more harsh.

My favorite quote from that link comes from Saint Marty the Pure, "If that's the case, a butt-end to somebody's face at any time is pretty gutless," Stars goalie Marty Turco said. "Just sticking your knob out there is a dangerous play. I've caught guys, my own teammates, around the net and I've seen guys get major injuries to the face. It's something our game doesn't need if that did happen."

and have you watched turd-co's style of play?i bet homer has big bumps on the back of his head from that d-bag after every game. and he makes those comments about a goalie sticking his stick in front of a player without any kind of swinging motion and letting the player skate into it? wow. turd-co is a d-bag.
