TSN's Ice Chips:

QUOTE
dal.png Philippe Boucher skated for the first time in several days Thursday, but his status has not changed. Stu Barnes worked out for about 20 minutes Thursday (he had a 30-minute session Wednesday), but he is out for Game 5. Jere Lehtinen is also out. The three still might travel to Detroit with the team. Defenceman Mark Fistric is sidelined with mononucleosis. He will not make the trip. - Dallas Morning News

Brenden Morrow has tallied a point in six consecutive games; he has goals in four of those six contests. - Star-Telegram

det.png Winger Johan Franzen, sidelined by concussion-like symptoms, has been cleared to resume light workouts. "He's been given the green light to go ahead and work out," general manager Ken Holland said. "Not full out, but he can ride a bike and start doing some things, so that's good news."
Tomas Holmstrom gave an off-day press conference on Friday afternoon, and said he has no plans to back off his net-front game. When asked if he would change his approach in Game 5 he replied: "No. I have to go to the net, do my job around the net." - Detroit Free Press
Franzen's injury has put more pressure on the top line. "It's not easy to fill the offensive role he had, that's for sure," said Dan Cleary, who filled Franzen's spot on the second line with Valtteri Filppula and Mikael Samuelsson the last three games. "You can't rely on that first line all the time. You have to find a way to get scoring from the other lines to back their team off," said Nicklas Lidstrom. - Detroit News

phi.png Nothing has changed physically for Kimmo Timonen since he was hit in the left ankle by a puck in the Montreal series and sustained a blood clot. But with doctors now telling him that the injury can't get any worse and that he has the green light to play, Timonen finds that his only obstacle to being on the ice Sunday for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins is dealing with the pain and numbness. He will test the foot and ankle during a full practice Saturday before making a final decision. "It comes down to how much pain I can take," Timonen said Friday. "I feel confident that I'll be ready to go on Sunday, but I won't know for sure until I practice with the team and really be out there with the boys and see how it feels." - Philadelphia Inquirer

pitt.png After collecting 14 points (six goals) in the first nine playoff games, Evgeni Malkin has only four points (two goals) in four games against the Flyers, went scoreless in Game 4 and hasn't had a goal since scoring two in Game 1. Penguins coach Michel Therrien doesn't believe fatigue is a factor and said Malkin needs to focus on returning to his early playoff form. "I think they did a good job of checking him," Therrien said.
Therrien gave the players a day off Friday. - Tribune Review

hmm.gif Is Turdo trying to blame Mathieu??

QUOTE
"It was a gutty performance by my team to help me get over the schneid," Turco said. "This team hasn't made any excuses for what's gone wrong. We just weren't playing well, but now we're playing a lot better."
...
"We talked about it before the game, and we just felt that given enough opportunities here, one of these days we're going to play well and he's going to stand out and win us a game here," center Mike Modano said of Turco. "It’s a great thing about sports — you get a lot of second chances and a lot of chances to prove yourself and erase a lot of doubt that anybody has in you. We just felt positive and loose."
...
''He's the best in the game at it,'' Daley said of Turco's passing abilities. ''He's like a third defenseman because he passes it better than most of us.''
