I just heard that, too. What a tragedy. I'm speechless.

I read he ran into a truck with his race-motorcycle. On these things you may pay for small mistakes you or somebody else does. What a shame. He was a great talent. Condolences to his family, friends and teammates.

Hughes added that he never knew about his client's new hobby. "I had no idea," he explained to CKNW in Vancouver. "Another client of ours, Kris Letang, said Luc let him know he was riding his dad's motorcycle with some friends a week or two ago. I have since been told - though I don't know - that he actually bought a motorcycle two days ago."

I'm in complete disbelief over this tragedy, it seemed not too long ago that Bourdon stopped Ovechkin on an one-on-one, got pied at a Canucks superskills competition (an event I was there for), came to defend Miller against Tootoo, and did a comical dance-off against Edler. This feels terrible, he was enjoying his life not a day ago.

RIP, Bourdon.

I'm sure by now most if not all Ducks fans have heard about the tragic death of Canucks defenseman Luc Bourdon. For those that don't he died yesterday afternoon when his motorcycle struck a truck. He was only 21 years old. For more information see nhl.com. I'd like to ask all Ducks fans to pray for his family, friends, and teammates. Thanks everyone and Go Ducks! goducks1ux5.gif

You have got to be kidding... Did you read the last ten posts that span over a 24 hour period?

And what's with the "Go Ducks" in the context of mourning a 21yo who tragically lost his life... that's very inappropriate.

Your post makes me really wonder where you are coming from. You join this site and immediately promote another site that is supposed to have daily news, then post something that is 24 hours old in a thread that has already been discussing the tragedy for a day, as if nothing has been said about it. And then tack "Go Ducks!" on the end? hmm.gif

Back on topic:
QUOTE
Sobbing uncontrollably just hours after losing her son, Luc Bourdon, in a tragic motorcycle accident, Suzanne Boucher said she had tried desperately to stop him from buying a bike.

Her plea worked last year when her fears changed his mind. That's when Bourdon, the promising Canucks defenceman, first told his mom he dreamed of riding, and was spellbound by the "power and beauty" of motorcycles.

"I was scared when he told me that," Boucher said yesterday through tears from her home in Shippagan, N.B. "I disagreed with it so much. I said, 'You can't do it.' It was too risky, too dangerous. His girlfriend helped me reason with him. But this year was different. This year he wasn't going to listen... Read more>>

I post this very somber article because it has an important message.

When I was 21, I had a 40 year old friend tell me "you will find that as you grow older, your parents get smarter".

I can tell you he was 100% correct.

Lighten up. DuckFan57, like most new members or members that don't visit this board on a regular basis, did not see a thread about Bourdon and...shockingly...didn't think to go to the NHL forum and wade through the seven-page thread titled Vancouver Canucks before they posted. After all, why would a thread that was started in July of 2006 be discussing this event? So they posted a new thread in the AllDucks forum and that thread got moved/merged into this one. Thus the reason that the post sounds like it is oblivious to the previous comments...because it was.

This is a crystal clear example of what I was talking about six months ago. This place is very hard to navigate for those that are not regular contributors and with responses like the one that l&g and dk have given to this post it makes it very unwelcoming for new members. Why was the death of an NHL player not its own thread? Are we going to put all Vancouver Canucks discussions in this one thread for years on end? Is the NHL forum really going to be 30 different threads - one for each team that isn't the Ducks and one for the league in general? How is a person like DuckFan57 supposed to find these posts when he or she comes onto the site? Are they supposed to look around all day before they post? Wouldn't a thread titled "Canucks rookie Luc Bourdon killed in crash" have been a little easier to find? Would an extra thread to discuss this specific tragedy really done anyone or anything any harm in any way?

I see that the old guard is up to its old tricks with snide comments directed at new members and/or members that don't post multiple times a day. What's more inappropriate, ladiesandgentlemen...DuckFan57 putting a Go Ducks on there or you dressing them down for it in a discussion about the tragic death of an NHL player? Or was DK's little wink.gif to you the more appropriate way to respond?

There was no reason for l&g or dk to belittle DuckFan57 and yet they both did it. Why? What's to be gained by that? I post this because I'm hoping that this behavior will change and that new members will not be ridiculed for posting their thoughts and that if they happen to post something in the wrong place they won't be bullied into never posting again for fear of getting treated harshly again.

For more photos, I have 17 photos of the Bourdon memorial here on my Flickr account. Most of them were taken around 6pm today.

My sign ("we are all Canucks" is a popular team promotional slogan):

After I put it up, a guy in a Canucks jersey noticed it, then saw me with my Ducks jacket on. "Is that yours?" he asked. I nodded. "Thanks, man." He was really coming close to tearing up and, quite frankly, so was I. I wanted to let the Canucks fans know that they're not alone in mourning; looks like it worked. It was pretty quiet all around.

Yeah, there aren't too many Ducks fans out here, and I know of at least one who wants to leave something but can't (since he lives in Irvine). Since I live 30 minutes from GM Place, it was the least I can do.

In other news, the person who won Bourdon's jersey on fan appreciation night has offered to return it to Bourdon's family. Mucho karma points to that person.

Letang said that he and Bourdon had discussed the motorcycle in their last phone conversation and that Bourdon had gotten the bike only three days ago.

"We know it was dangerous, but he had fun with it. I know he didn't speed with it," said Letang, who roomed with Bourdon on the Val d'Or junior team and the Canadian national junior team.

"He just had, like, a bad move or something. Those things, you have, like, no second chance."

Something like this does deserve a thread of it's own. I'm not going to read Canucks news or reports, but I am going to notice a topic about someone's death.

Tragic situation. My prayers go out to Bourdon's family and friends.

Some mourning Vancouver Canucks fans have found their own way to honour Luc Bourdon.

Canuck Place Children's Hospice has seen a flurry of donations since the motorcycle crash in New Brunswick on Thursday that claimed the 21-year-old defenceman's life.

Most of the donation amounts have involved the number 28, the jersey Bourdon wore with the Canucks.

"What are the odds of someone making a $28 or $280 or $2,800 donation out of the blue?" Canuck Place chief executive officer Filomena Nalewajek said yesterday. "This is people's way of saying we really understand the connection between the Canucks and Canuck Place and this is the way we want to express our grief."

Less than two days after Bourdon's accident, Canuck Place, which provides specialized palliative care for children living with a life-threatening illness, had received almost 200 donations totalling more than $7,000 - all involving the number 28 in some capacity.

I heard the jersey on the coffin was generously donated by the fan who won it on fan appreciation night as part of the "Jerseys Off Our Backs" promotion -- it's the last jersey Bourdon ever wore.
