Yup at the tune of $2,6M...

Yeah, but over the course of twice the time.
He got 4 mio. per year. 2/3 are 2,66 mio. His salary will count against the cap with 1,33 mio. for the next two seasons. We got ourselves 2,66 mio. off the cap for this season at the expence of 1,33 mio. next season. Given our problems, that's ok with me.

I realize that the Ducks will still have to pay two-thirds of his salary but that's better than playing all of it and having him waste space and minutes all season long. This will give Bobby Ryan a spot in the top six entering the season and give the Ducks a bit more money under the cap. I view this as addition by subtraction. The new NHL is a beautiful thing...guys getting bought out of bad contracts on a regular basis, RFA's getting offer sheets, teams having to trade/let go of good players due to the cap. The offseason has become a VERY interesting time of year!
Here's hoping some NHL team is dumb enough to claim him.

If this doesn't I'm not sure what will. He must step up.
Also does the waiving of Bertuzzi mean that Selanne and Burke have talked?

That would explain the urgency of waiving him.

If any other team claims him they take 100% of his contract from now on. The Ducks would not owe him a dime. However, if he is to clear waivers without being claimed - which is likely - the Ducks will owe him 2/3 of the remainder of his contract which is $4 million. However, they will be able to pay him that money ($2.66 million) over the course of two years so that their cap hit in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 will be $1.33 million.

Ever since the Steve More incident he has been bad luck, call it bad karma or a curse, but everywhere hes been since hasnt worked out.
I knew the ducks would never win a cup with that shmuck on our team.

Then both teams would pay him 50% of his contract. That means he would count against the cap with 2 mio. this season (and only this season) instead of 1.33 mio. (for the next two) if we bought him out. But overall we would save 660,000 compared to the buy-out scenario.

I was just going over this in my mind last night thinking maybe the bad Karma was diluted a bit by the justice of him leaving Detroit last season to win a Cup with the Ducks and then seeing Detroit take the Cup instead. I still couldn't be at all comfortable with him being on the Ducks. So this move is like a breath of fresh air. Clean house, let's get all the bad K out and get us some good K in with the kids, because they are alright!

An absolute uncorroborated comment based on one incident. He was an exemplar player for the Ducks. After all he wasn't the one suspended.

Frees up cap space, creates a spot for Bobby Ryan...
Sad, cause i liked Bert in that "Please God don't kill me" sort of way.
but good for the team.
