Yeah, how long will the Forsberg saga continue? It's way beyond miniseries potential.

Forsberg continues to suffer from ongoing agony of de-feet and might not be ready to play again until Christmas. Though if he does get healthy enough to play, the expectation is he'll reunite with his pal Sakic in Denver.

"Peter still has this foot issue," Don Baizley, Forsberg's agent, told the Rocky Mountain News. "He has to have that resolved before anything is going to develop on that front. There's nothing new on that score at the moment. Peter has done some skating and he wants to play, but only if the foot is right."

Didn't think there was any question it was his right foot that was ailing. wink.gif If his left foot is joining the retirement party, he should definitely wave the white flag of de-feet and surrender.

Blues defenseman Erik Johnson, the No. 1 pick in the 2006 draft, tore two ligaments in his right knee during a recent golf outing and is expected to miss the entire season but recover fully.

"In our business you get a few curveballs," team president John Davidson said Tuesday night before St. Louis played Dallas in a preseason game. "This is a pretty good curveball."

Johnson, 20, was injured during a team golf outing on Sept. 16 when his right foot got caught between the accelerator and the brake of his golf cart. The Blues had to wait for swelling in the knee to go down before a diagnosis could be made.

Two surgeons determined that Johnson tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in the knee that will require an operation to fix.

Sergei Gonchar, their power-play quarterback and the second-leading scorer among NHL defensemen last season with 65 points, injured his left shoulder when the teams opened the preseason Saturday in Pittsburgh and is out indefinitely. Gonchar is scheduled to undergo an MRI this week to determine the extent of the injury.

Nicklas Lidstrom was given the day off on Thursday after the Red Wings learned that the team’s captain suffered a broken nose in Wednesday’s preseason opener at Joe Louis Arena.
...
Lidstrom was helped off the ice early in the third period after Christopher Higgins' shot from just outside of the face-off circle to the right of Wings goalie Jimmy Howard appeared to ricochet off of Marian Hossa's stick shaft and into Lidstrom’s face. He was helped from the ice by forward Tomas Holmstrom and team trainer Piet Van Zant. Lidstrom was taken to Detroit Medical Center where he had x-rays, and stitches to close a large cut.

They are only pulled groins or sore hips, feet and hands, but the injuries are beginning to add up for the Montreal Canadiens.

On Thursday, there were 10 veterans suffering some sort of minor ailment in training camp, but coach Guy Carbonneau isn't losing any sleep over them just yet.

Captain Saku Koivu hasn't played in the pre-season after taking a shot on the foot while training in Finland before camp.

Guillaume Latendresse and newly acquired Robert Lang have sore hips, while another newcomer, winger Alex Tanguay, missed practice on Thursday with a hip flexor.

Sore groins are bothering Christopher Higgins, Roman Hamrlik, Georges Laraque, Patrice Brisebois and Alex Kovalev, although he is expected to be in the lineup for a pre-season game Friday night against the visiting Ottawa Senators.

And Steve Begin has a sore hand from an exhibition game fight, but he says he's ready to go.

Alfredsson underwent arthroscopic surgery Friday on his right knee to remove a bone chip that was dislodged during a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins last Sunday.

The team believes a hit he took aggravated an old injury from last season, dislodging the bone chip and causing it to float around in the knee.

According to the NHL Live show, Brodeur will be out 3-4 months (i.e. season)... bye bye records (at least for this season). Too much celebrating too soon...

... and playoffs.

But seriously they are going to have a huge battle to get to playoffs especially in their division. This is what they get for depending on Brodeur so heavily and not really developing a viable backup. Sorry but I don't see Weekes as a starter. If we were in this situation I'd be really pissed but at least we have Hiller.

And that's the big problem with an organization like NJD. They ride the one pony and now he's out and the backup is a journeyman who has played sporadically albeit well.

Watch Weekes tear it up. When you get a chance to pinch hit for Brodeur, you better stand on your head and light candles to the hockey gods all day long for the sound of those blessed pipes!

It always bothers me a little when the NHL starts a "count down" for a player. Same as in baseball and the MLB. It's just begs for bad karma.

Get better soon Marty!
