The 6th Annual Ducks Fantasy Camp was held August 25-28 at Anaheim Ice.

Coaches for the week included Newell Brown on Monday, Randy Carlyle on Tuesday, Rick Hutchinson on Wednesday, and Dave Farrish on Thursday. This year David Freeze, a local goalie coach, assisted the goalies on Wednesday. On Monday, Jason Marshall, Sean O'Donnell, George Parros, and Sean Pronger demonstrated and assisted with the drills, and then played in the scrimmage afterwards. Brian Burke came on Tuesday and despite being sore from his motorcycle incident, skated and shagged/passed pucks for the drills during the first half. Joe DiPenta, Chris Pronger, Bobby Ryan, and Joe Trotta also assisted on Tuesday. Needless to say, Carlyle was a lot more demanding than Brown on both the campers and the players. On Wednesday, Chris Kincaid, Steve Montador, Bobby Ryan, and Joe Trotta were on the ice. And for game day on Thursday, Todd Marchant, Bobby Ryan, and Brian Salcido played alongside the campers.

Marshall was glad to be back at Fantasy Camp. He had missed the last couple due to playing in Germany. He really enjoyed his time in Germany, the second year more than the first, although he preferred playing for Cologne. He and his wife are expecting another addition to their family.

On Tuesday, not only were the campers working hard, but Carlyle even barked at Pronger to "Wake up!" during one of the drills. laugh.gif

Carlyle did lighten up and had to direct traffic for one of the drills until the campers got the hang of it. But DiPenta botched one of them and Pronger yelled at him, "Everyone else did it right, you're the one who messed up!" laugh.gif

Burke and DiPenta make the new warm up suits look pretty good.

And Carlyle can smile:

Must be nice to have a pro pick up the pucks while you head into the locker room for refreshments. biggrin.gif

Pronger brought his boys to camp, who enjoyed the scrimmage from the bench

On Wednesday, we got to see new player Steve Montador.

And it was his turn to pick up pucks.

During the scrimmage he finally took some time to examine the Ducks London game cap that they gave him to wear.

During the scrimmage, Montador decided to shadow Bobby and lost his cap for his efforts. laugh.gif

In return, Bobby gave Montador a big California welcome.

Finally the big game arrived on Thursday. Marchant played on the dark team (which was undefeated in the previous five years of camp). The rookies Ryan and Salcido played on the white team.

The white team scored first and led 2-1 at the end of the 1st period.

Salsa keeps a watchful eye on his defensive partner Ryan.

And Salsa looks good bringing the puck out. Will we see him doing this with the big boys this season?

The white team maintained their lead so it was time to embellish a trip so that the refs couldn't possibly ignore it ...

But the white held on to finally break the five year jinx after an empty net goal, 5-3.

Another fun fantasy camp came to an end all too soon.
