It's just one game but if he averages two points a game then yes it is.

Mikkelson has worn 9 since last season and he's been on the Pirates/Chops before Bobby was both times so he got first dibs I guess. 6 is 9 upside down though. Make no mistake though 9 will be his NHL number when he gets to chose it.

The 3rd period was all Chops, helped out by 23 saves by LeNeveu in his Chops debut.

I read this and my eyes popped out. It was like, Wow!, must've been some scintillating skating going on, with the Cutlets scoring three goals on one end of the ice while letting their goalie get bombarded with 23 shots on the other end... all in one period! But then I went and checked the stats.


And speaking of LeNeveu, this caught my eye in the article posted by DTP over in the Ryan thread:

LeNeveu, a native of Fernie, British Columbia, played at Cornell, where he set the NCAA Division I record for the best career goals-against average at 1.29.

1.29 GAA is incredible for a two season stat, along with a .939 SV%.

Those are the kind of stats that a goalie has during a Cup-winning playoff run.

Cornell is a goalie factory but NCAA can be misleading. I mean David McKee had similar numbers when he was at Cornell but he hasn't turned out to be much himself. But I was very stoked when we got Lenevue. He could be back-up on a number of NHL teams (I'd take him over both of the Kings goalies right now). We won't have to give up any draft picks this year to pick up a journeyman goalie to solidify our ranks in the middle of the year.

I'm anxious to see who gets sent to Bakersfield though, McKee or Levassuer? Levenue is going to be the start in Iowa so do we keep JP on the bench in Iowa or have him start 40+ games in Bakersfield? Defenses suck in the ECHL so he'd get a lot of action, god knows the Reign goalie did last night.

Brennan Evans started the comeback with several well-placed jabs.

His Iowa teammates ended it with a fist-pumping flourish.

The Chops scored five unanswered goals Friday - two within 5 minutes of Evans' second-period fight with Peoria's Curtis Fraser - to skate to a 5-3 American Hockey League season-opening and franchise-christening win before an announced crowd of 6,951 at Wells Fargo Arena.

"He went out there, dropped the gloves and got the momentum going back for us," said Drew Miller, whose back-handed, short-handed goal 8:35 into the third period proved to be the game-winner.

"It got us excited on the bench. It's hard being down like that. For him to step up and do that for the team shows he's going to be a big leader for us."
