Kings G.M. upset over the loss of Ellis
QUOTE
Portland, ME – It looks like Los Angeles General Manager Dean Lombardi is calling foul after Matt Ellis, who was placed on waivers by the Buffalo Sabres, cleared and was assigned to the Portland Pirates. For Ellis, it seemed he was bound for the minors at some point of season for one team in the AHL.

I know this isn't really about the Ducks, but it does mention the Ducks in the article and it might be uplifting after last nights game.

Also, for those interested the former farm club in Portland is doing very well. The Pirates are currently the best team in the AHL with a recored of 9-1-1 and has three players in the top-7 in scoring, including Mark Mancari, who leads the league with 22pts (9g, 13a) in 11 games. The Pirates also have the top two rookies in the AHL in Nathan Gerbe (10g, 5a) in 11 games and Tim Kennedy (4g, 11a).

While the Ducks prospects have been missed in Portland, the organization has moved on pretty successfully. People still track Iowa though to see how they are doing from time to time and Brian Burke is still booed at the CCCC when mentioned, but that is only by a selective few and as the Pirates continue to win it becomes more faint.

anyway, just wanted to give a little update and some news I thought you might like.

Interesting tidbit on the workings of waivers....and some history on Ducks successes and failures in that regard.

I still don't quite understand Lombardi's beef. If they wanted to re-claim him, they should have. IF someone else also claimed him, they just would have had to waive him again....and MAYBE get him through to Manchester, and more likely lose him again. The way he played it, they were guaranteed to lose him. Seems like his error alone(?), so quitcherbitchen! smile.gif

I am very glad to hear that you great Pirate fans have a good team to support. You were first class with us, and deserve all the best to feed your hockey appetite. IMO, the NHL is a great league because the vast majority of it's players have a support system that starts in their homes and carries through juniors/college level and the minors on through. Portland, ME is one such mainstay of the home atmosphere that helps hockey players to become good people as well as good players.

Go Pirates!!!

This doesn't even make sense. Oh wait... it's the Kings, where Alice in Wonderland would go to play hockey, that's SOP. Now I get it.
