I think Beauch is one of the most valuable free agents on the market this year. I think he is the most important player for us to re-sign. What about you guys?

I think it's a given that Beauch comes back. With our severe lack of signed defensemen after this year, he's definitely a keeper. I voted $3mil/year for 3-5 years. I think that he's going to get a decently long contract because he is a very solid defensemen (most of the time, he does make mistakes and unfortunately they're usually pretty bad ones and throughout a whole game). We definitely want to keep him until at least Pears and Getz have to be re-signed.

I don't think there's much dispute about that stuff. The reason that I chose only $3mil/year is because I think Scott's coming back. Once Scott is gone, Beauch's contract goes up to $4-5mil/year because he becomes our second best defensemen, replacing most of what Scott does. That's a tall order. Maybe he'll get a back-loaded contract with an average hit of $3.5-4mil or something...

Thoughts?

EDIT: Good idea for a poll smile.gif

It's never a good thing to see a guy get hurt, but there is a silver lining. if i'm right and Either Scotty or Pronger leave after this season we will need Beauch, but losing Beauch allows us to get Bobby Ryan up it seems. Which might help us avoid the whole clusterfudge around what it would take to get Sundin. Especially if Kunitz works out with Teemu and B-Mo.

I dunno. It's a brutal injury to come back from, I wonder if anyone (Ducks included) will make a big splash for him. I'd honestly expect a two year contract of less than 3 million a year. I guess with incentives and bonuses, you might be able to give something bigger and have some insurance.

He's an NHL defenseman with playoff experience, I would expect at least one team to try and overpay for him even with the injury.
