Claude Lemieux suits up for China Sharks

One of the most controversial yet undeniably accomplished players of his generation has decided to suit up again at age 43. Claude Lemieux, winner the of 1994-95 Conn Smythe Trophy and a four-time Stanley Cup champion with three clubs, is attempting to make a comeback four years after hanging up his skates.

Lemieux recently signed with the China Sharks of the Asia League of Ice Hockey (ALIH) and suited up for a Nov. 16 game in South Korea against Anyang Halla. Playing in front of 591 spectators at Anyang Ice Arena, Lemieux assisted on a Jason Beeman power-play goal early in the third period. Anyang Halla won the game, 4-2.

He's left the China Sharks and is coming back to the US. He signed an AHL deal with the Worcester Sharks and will be in the lineup on Wednesday night at the Civic Center against the Pirates.

I guess I'll have to move this thread from the International Hockey forum into the North American Hockey forum.

San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed forward Claude Lemieux to a two-way contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“This is simply the next step in the evaluation process with Claude,” said Wilson.

Lemieux must still clear NHL waivers, which would run through Tues., Dec. 30 at Noon PST. Should he clear waivers, Wilson said he would be assigned back to Worcester.

Oh wouldn't Claude just wish!

I hesitate to point out other people's mistakes, because God knows I make my share on here, but I couldn't help myself when I saw the photo the San Jose Mercury News website used for its story on Claude Lemieux (that's Claude Lemieux) making his comeback in the Sharks organization. Take a look and see if you see anything wrong with this.

The San Jose Sharks have recalled forward Claude Lemieux and reassigned forwards Brad Staubitz and Tom Cavanagh to the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League.

Lemieux has played in 23 games with Worcester, posting three goals and 11 points, 24 penalty minutes and a +2 rating.

I guess we should all breathe a sigh of relief that Helene Elliot, or worse yet Christine Daniels, don't have to make good on a promise like that!

I've been surprised that there have been no comments on this.

With all the warm weather, the parking lot at the Ponda or along the Santa Ana River next to it would be a good place. I've seen people streaking at both in the past. And one time it was based on a hockey bet, too. Not a pretty sight, though...
