Chops play three straight this weekend, two against Milwaukee and one with Grand Rapids. Barring any complications I should be able to make it to one MAYBE two games. I'll be taking my camera if I go and hopefully you'll all have a good look at how our top affiliate runs things. It was something I meant to do many times over when they were the Iowa Stars (I especially wanted to go see Fedoruk) but it hasn't worked out so well on any of my visits until now.

Got seats three rows back from the glass for $20 each, and right next to the Chops' side of the Penalty Box. Access to the Club Lounge wasn't as fancy as the Old No. 7 Club @ Honda Center but they had great food.
Todrick, if you are reading this, I got your family one of the Drew Miller $10 Bills the Chops were using as part of their charitable promotion tonight. You bought faux $10 bills with a player's face on them and if they scored a goal you could redeem them for $10 worth of Chops merchandise. It helped raise a fair amount of money for orphaned kids, and by winning merchandise credit he money still went to charity. Anyways, Drew did light the lamp scoring the Chops' sixth goal of the game but I had already bought myself a puck and didn't want anything else, I really liked these bills!
Anyways if you are at the game on December 14th, I'll hand deliver it to ya.

So here is the first round of pictures from last Saturday's game at Wells Fargo Arena
#1- We arrived at the Arena fairly early because I had read that there was a charity event on, plus since I had never driven to the arena personally I wanted to be sure I was there in a timely manner. It turns out that it was way easier to access the area than I thought. It is very conveniently located off of I-235 downtown. Parking in the most expensive lot was $6, we decided to use that lot because it gave us an easy way back to the freeway. This picture was taken just outside of the rental car where we parked. This is the North Side of the building.
#2- The Arena and the adjoining events center were built adjacent to the old Veterans Memorial Auditorium a.k.a "The Barn", which housed state basketball and wrestling tournaments, the Iowa Barnstormers, and many other special events before Wells Fargo Arena was built. Normally I wouldn't say an arena is a necessity for a community, but new building was a badly needed modern improvement to the city.
#3- This is the street between the Arena, and the Hy-Vee Hall/Exhibition Center, notice the skyway built between the two. We walked down this road to get to the ticket office on the South Side of the building. The lobby with the ticket office and a future Team Store were actually located indoors, instead of the ticket windows being outside like at Honda Center or Angel Stadium, it was rather convenient because it was below freezing out, heh.
#4- This is the Botanical Center, located across the river
#5- This was a nice view of the Capitol Building.

#6- Here is the entrance on the South Side of the building, notice the turnstiles at the top of the stairs, which allowed people to gather into the lobby before the game indoors away from the cold. There was an elevator that allowed access for suite ticket holders and those who couldn't use the stairs. It looked nice and spacious inside. Fans were not actually allowed to pass the turnstiles until only an hour before game time.
#7- Another concourse, it's very dark so it is hard to tell but the large windows provided a great view, and they are similar to what the Penguins will be incorporating into their new building when they move out of Mellon Arena. The Escalators were mostly for the suites, which were the highest seats being sold for the game. Fun fact: Suites were $1000, you got 12 tickets and a $350 food credit as well as VIP parking included with that total.
#8- Pork Chop on a Stick, and I wish we had these at the Pond.
#9- Another Hallway, ahead on the left was the Club Section, which allowed access to the club and loge seats and a small concession stand that had freshly grilled food and a decent bar. Not as fancy as the Old No 7, but not nearly as expensive.
#10-View of the ice from the Club Restaurant. those small seating areas at the top are the Loge seats, which allows a little privacy but they are not full-on suites.

Thanks so much for sharing your photos Duckbill!
Did you actually try the Pork Chop on a Stick? One would think that they wouldn't be promoting skewering your own team's namesake.

#11- Here is what I think is a nice shot of the inside of the arena, taken from my seat. Four rows back from the glass for $20 per seat, right next to the Chops penalty box. Behind the team benches is $17. The upper levels of seats were not in use for the game, and i'd imagine it would take a pretty spectacular turnout for the team to open it up. The announced crowd of 4700+ fit nicely in the lower bowl. It was also a really excited crowd as well. There were a good mixture of fans, casual fans, and families.
#12- The scoreboard provided really nice imagery, and the goals scored were replayed afterwards each time, the graphics were very good too. You cannot see it in this picture, but there are large flamethrowers atop the scoreboard that would go off for pregame pyrotechnics. I will upload a movie of them when I get to a better connection.
#13- Fans in Iowa share our dislike of Bad Officiating. Apparently the striped shirt guys weren't kind to the Chops in the previous night's games. No "Ref You Suck" chants though. This picture was taken of fans in Section 102, which was filled entirely by the most active fans in the entire building.
#14- This was part of a promotion where fans got better tickets not unlike what the Ducks and Angels did, only the ad had a funny twist as their seats "before" were located in one of the restrooms. Funny story, Koch Plastic Surgery is my stepdad's brother's practice, and he is also one of the Team Doctors for the Iowa Chops! I had no idea until dinner the next day, he goes to every other game at least and a big part of his job is fixing up facial injuries.
#15- The scoreboard at work, this was taken after the Chops' 8th goal and the final goal scored in the game. At the one minute mark, the majority of fans will yell "How Much Time is Left" followed by "Thank You". The announcer will respond with "You're welcome." Which is pretty awesome.
I did not, as I had already eaten probably 4 porkchops for lunch earlier in that day (including a porkchop, deli ham, and bacon sandwich), and when I got to the stadium I was having a craving for Pork Tenderloin instead, but they smelled incredibly delicious, and they were using fresh cuts of meat that are probably better than anything you would find in the grocery stores out in California (admitting a little midwestern bias on that).

Pictures of Brian Salcido, Drew Miller, Captain Ajay Baines, Brennan Evans (heading to the penalty box after a fight), part of a scrum that involved Ryan Dingle, and one of the Chops pregame drills. When I get the movies up you will be able to see some more cool images. Especially some of the many goal celebrations.

Thanks for posting the pics. Looks like a really nice arena. The pork chop on a stick cracked me up...my mind is reeling.
