Kind of out of the blue...
But I guess we are kind of over-stocked with checkers anyway.
Good luck, Suts!
I hope this opens the door for Drew Miller.
It sort of sucks we gave up a 2nd round pick originally for Suts and got the rights to a 5th-round guy in return, along with the mysterious conditional throw-in.
"Buy high, sell low" again?

I don't think it's quite that simple. I saw one of McIntyre's games this season, and he looked very good for Colgate. He is their leading scorer, and has a nice set of skills. This is a McNab scouting.

I really liked Sutherby.
It's not only a shame that he is gone now, but also that he's on the Stars now.

Here's his Talent Analysis at Hockey's Future:
LINK
They rate his potential as a "Quick, offensive third line forward" (= fourth line with the Ducks?), but his probability of doing so as "a chance to reach his potential but is unlikely to do so. The potential rating is multiplied by 70 percent for depth chart purposes, indicating that the player's potential is extremely fluid."
Hopefully, he surprises everyone like Andy did and become a top-liner.

I liked him, but ok, we have too many fourth liners.. Especially now, since parros, Carter and Ryan are clicking

Sundin for 1M/year

Possibly, but it doesn't exactly clear a lot of space - the rest of Sutherby's 700k comes off the books but his roster spot will have to be filled by someone - e.g. Miller (525k) or Ebbet (487k)...

we clear a tiny amount of cap room and get a young stud in return
in mcnab we trust

-$448K prorated Suts
+$320K prorated $500K
+326K on hand
$454K new cap space
$600K prorated is $384K<$454K
I'm expecting Miller or Ebbet to get the call, but I wouldn't be surprised to be wrong.

Having Carter, Miller and Ryan could spark some young exciting action for a 4th line.

I don't see ANYONE getting a call immediately. We went all last season with 13 forwards...and without Sutherby, (and with Larsen on LTIR), we're finally BACK at 13.

That was my first thought too, but May's been really struggling to stay healthy this season so IMHO the Ducks need a backup to the backup on the scratch pad. I do think it will be a game or 2 down the road though.

I think carter and ryan are going to play with selanne tonight.
at least i hope they do!
both Ryans could really use the experience with teemu.
I say push Morrison to the 4th line for a few games

In the neighborhood of $790k by my count.
A much safer cushion than we had before. We can actually pull up a goalie when required, and NOT have to clear space to do it.

Actually, I don't think his spot needs to be filled. The Ducks added a forward when Bobby Ryan was recalled (Beuchemin out, Festerling and Ryan in).
Also, let's not forget that Brad Larsen is still sitting out there in limbo. Maybe everyone has decided against another surgery and they plan to have him in the lineup soon.
I guess I should have read the entire thread first.
On another note, we met Suts yesterday as part of the rink visit at Anaheim Hockey Club of Corona (he was there with Getz).
He seemed like a nice guy, though not particularly outgoing (did he know about the trade then?). We have a couple pictures of the kids with him and Getz on what turns out to be his last day as a Duck.

Bochenski was traded right after doing the rink tour last year. Is the rink tour going to become the Ducks version of the kiss of death for the odd man outs? Funny thing, he wasn't outgoing either, but very nice. Poor guy was all alone folding his jersey a million times because everyone wanted to talk to May and Bert and hardly knew who he was.

Not on the active roster. The active roster is 22 with Larsen and Frankie on Long-term Injured Reserve. But we still don't need to call up anyone at the moment. Unless Murray thinks it's detrimental to keep Miller in the A at this point but I doubt it. I also never expect to see Larsen suit up with the Ducks. Even it he's healthy I think he'll be shipped to Iowa.
What this boils down to is moving someone who was replaced in the pecking order. Suts was the most expensive utility forward besides Marchant and didn't have a spot anymore. I miss him luck in Dallas and hope this kid we got is alright. I'm sure the conditional pick is contingent on Suts re-signing with Dallas or not. For our sake I hope he does.

Correct. I counted Beauchemin.
