TSN's Ice Chips

Defenceman Bret Hedican was hurt Sunday after falling hard into the boards Sunday. He has an upper body injury, but there was no immediate projection on the severity of the injury. - Orange County Register

Aaron Ward (ankle) returned to the lineup Sunday after missing six games. - Boston Globe

Sutter had just three minutes of ice time last game. In the recent past Lombardi centered the top line, while Conroy centered the 3rd line and Boyd had 4th line duties. The Wild lost to Chicago yesterday and had an optional this morning. - TSN

Carolina has placed Frantisek Kaberle on waivers. - TSN

Centre Paul Stastny will have surgery Tuesday on his fractured right forearm. A timetable for his recovery and return won't be known until after the procedure, but the Avalanche expect it to be between six and eight weeks. - Denver Post

With Fabian Brunnstrom hurting (upper body injury), Mark Parrish will get a chance to play. He is expected to see time on a line with Mike Ribeiro and Steve Ott, and might even get some powerplay time. - Dallas Morning News

General Manager Bob Gainey announced that forwards Kyle Chipchura and Max Pacioretty have been recalled to the Canadiens from the AHL. - Media Release

Defenceman Kimmo Timonen has been diagnosed with a chip fracture in his ankle. He will be out for about a week, perhaps a little more. Forward Scott Hartnell is playing through a broken toe. Matt Carle's ankle injury is being called a bone bruise. The Flyers have called up Claude Giroux, who leads AHL rookies in goals. - Philadelphia Daily News

David Setoguchi (personal) will not play tonight against St. Louis. he is scheduled to rejoin the Sharks in Minnesota for Tuesday's game. Claude Lemieux will get a two-way contract today that would enable the Sharks to call him up to San Jose if needed. General manager Doug Wilson, though, said the evaluation process in far from complete and this should not be taken as a sign that Lemieux will eventually swim with the Sharks. - Contra Costa Times

The Canadiens annual holiday visit to Florida was played in front of a largely pro-Montreal crowd. Chants of “Go Habs, go!” erupted throughout the game. There also was a chant of “Carey, Carey!” after Price made a nice save in the third period.

“I thought the crowd was great,” Florida coach Pete DeBoer said.” It was a great atmosphere, outstanding. If we can have crowds like that every weekend, I don’t care who they’re cheering for. It was a great atmosphere in the building.”
