TSN's Ice Chips
Aaron Ward, knocked out during the second period of Saturday's game with a charley horse, participated in Tuesday's morning skate, but did not play. Petteri Nokelainen played in his first game since injuring his right shoulder Dec. 12 against Atlanta. Nokelainen replaced Vladimir Sobotka on the fourth line. Andrew Ference (fractured tibia) didn't skate Tuesday morning. Patrice Bergeron is expected to speak to the media about his latest concussion next Tuesday, when the Montreal Canadiens come to the Garden. - Boston Globe
Patrick Eaves returned for Carolina Tuesday after missing one game with an upper-body injury. - Herald-Sun
While Patrick Kane wasn't in the lineup against the Coyotes, missing his second straight game, he plans to take part in the Hawks' full practice Wednesday in Denver. There's a chance Kane could return to the lineup Thursday against the Avalanche, although a better bet might Saturday at Nashville. - Daily Herald Times
Forward Joel Lundqvist (shoulder) worked out and could return to the lineup Thursday in Detroit. He has played in just one of the last 26 games. - Dallas Morning News
The Kings recalled Oscar Moller after his stint with Sweden's junior national team. Because they had an open roster spot, the Kings won't have to make a corresponding move, and he is expected to play Thursday against the Ducks. Jon Quick did not start on Tuesday due to the flu. Quick was the projected starter, but the Kings had to go to Erik Ersberg, who played his first game since Dec. 15, when Quick came down with the flu. - LA Times
Left wing Stephane Veilleux missed Tuesday's game because of illness. Derek Boogaard missed his second consecutive game because of an "upper body" injury. That allowed Benoit Pouliot, scratched in three consecutive games, to return to the lineup. - Star Tribune
Jaroslav Halak starts in New York tonight against the Rangers. Coach Guy Carbonneau is unsure whether he will go with Marc Denis for Thursday's game against Toronto. Carey Price remains day to day but is unable to skate. Also, Saku Koivu plans to skate with the club Thursday and Friday in the hopes of returning Saturday against Washington. - TSN
Steve Sullivan finally has a target date for his return to the Predators lineup. Barring any setbacks he hopes to end an almost two-year absence by playing Saturday against Chicago. He has been sidelined with a back injury since February 2007. - Tennessean
Martin Brodeur, who is working out off ice since undergoing surgery to repair a torn biceps tendon, is still on target to return in late February. "Every day he's doing his therapy and well as off-ice conditioning," GM Lou Lamoriello told the Star Ledger. "Everything is completely on schedule. Nothing but positive. The time frame is still what we thought." - Star Ledger
Simon Gagne (shoulder) and Josh Gratton (abdominal strain) returned from injuries Tuesday. Defenceman Luca Sbisa played forward for the third straight game and joined Glen Metropolit and Andreas Nodl on a line. Daniel Briere (groin) said he was 90 to 95 percent healthy and that a Saturday return was possible. - Philadephia Inquirer
The Penguins went with the same lineup for the second game in a row Tuesday, scratching defencemen Hal Gill and Alex Goligoski and forward Tim Wallace. - Pittsburgh Post Gazette
Defenceman Paul Ranger practiced Tuesday and could return Thursday against the Coyotes after missing time with an upper-body injury. - Tampa Tribune
Mats Sundin says unless things change drastically - meaning how he feels - he WILL make his Canucks debut on Wednesday night. - TSN
Centre Sergei Fedorov (ankle) and winger Tomas Fleischmann (pneumonia), could be back in the lineup as soon as Friday against Columbus. That would leave Tom Poti (groin) and John Erskine (concussion), missing from the opening night roster. - Washington Times
