John Tavares won World Junior gold in Ottawa last week. He hopes to add a Memorial Cup to trophy case in June.

To bolster that quest, Tavares was traded Thursday from the Oshawa Generals to the London Knights on the eve of the Ontario Hockey League trade deadline, which falls at noon Friday.
...
"We reached a point however where we had to decide if we were going to surround (Tavares and Del Zotto) at this stage of their careers with players that could win a championship," Oshawa coach/GM Chris DePiero told the team's Web site, "or allow John and Michael the opportunity to perhaps win a Memorial Cup. We obviously chose the latter."

He was injured in a very odd hit during the prospect game last night. Any word?

McKellar said X-rays showed no broken bones or shoulder separation.

Tavares was not made available to the media afterwards, but the London Free Press reported Thursday that he would be out day-to-day, wouldn't play in last night's game against Kitchener and might not play tonight against Guelph.

When it was suggested that Tavares, who earlier in the third period was pasted into the boards by Kingston Frontenacs defenceman Taylor Doherty, was getting intentionally run Wednesday night, both coaches scoffed at the notion.

QUOTE
What people will remember most about Wednesday night’s choppy and chippy Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects game in Oshawa, Ontario, is the hit Zack Kassian laid on John Tavares, considered by many to be the top selection at last summer’s National Hockey League entry draft.

Kassian, of the Ontario Hockey League’s Peterborough Petes, crunched into the right shoulder of Tavares behind the net after Tavares finished a rush midway through the third period. It didn’t appear as if Tavares saw Kassian, who is listed at 6 foot 3 and 212 pounds, until it was too late. After lying on the ice momentarily, Tavares skated off without aid, favoring the shoulder and banging his stick on the ice in frustration. He headed for the dressing room and did not return, even for the closing ceremony.
