Still much favoritism?? Good thing the season is more than 41 games. The only teams with even the slightest mention that are outside the Eastern timezone are the Blackhawks, Flames, Kings, Predators, Sharks, and Wild. But only the Blackhawks, Kings, Sharks, and Wild are mentioned in the runner-up category. Don't know why I would ever expect any different treatment though.

Ahah! A Bobby Ryan mention ...

QUOTE
-Calder Trophy (rookie of the year):

Mason in a heartbeat. Just a few months back,

the 20-year-old was tending goal for the Ontario Hockey League's Kitchener Rangers. Now, arguably (see above, ahem), Mason is the National Hockey League's best stopper.

If the Blue Jackets land their first ever spot in the playoffs this coming spring, Mason will be the reason.

Anaheim's Bobby Ryan deserves mention as well. Pasted for taking the young man second overall in the Crosby draft of 2005, former Ducks GM Brian Burke's retribution is seeing Ryan blossom into a front-line power winger.

Honourable mention: Ryan (Anaheim), Kris Versteeg (Chicago).

Or, as I call it, the Eastern Conference media picks its most popular players.

How strange does it feel to NOT have Broduer nominated for the Vezina?

C'mon NHL...

Chaka Khan once was bad. But Chaka Khan twice!?!

Couldn't they get some Canadian band like they did for the last awards show?

And Jeremy Roenick as a host... Pathetic...

The stage and everything else is nice... But idk... The whole thing is very eghhh

Wow haha
I knew Malkon's English was bad, but I didn't know it was THAT bad.

At least Ovechkin has tried to learn English and speak it well

I wonder if some of it was due to his nerves. He doesn't usually seem that bad.

Am I the only one who thinks that Chara for Norris and Mason for Calder were horrible picks?

I'll kind of agree with Chara, I wouldn't call him a horrible pick, but I thought that Lidstrom should have won it. I'm just glad that Green didn't win. Yeah, he put up some great offensive numbers, but he needs to work on his overall defensive game before he should win the Norris.
As for Mason, he deserved the Calder. There is little question in my mind that he was the better choice than Ryan. And that Ryan was a clear second to him. I don't think that Versteeg should have been nominated, but, he didn't win, so that's not really an issue.

Well, I still think Mason was a great benefitter of the system the BJ's play. He would never have had that numbers on a team like STL or NSH. And without Bobby, we would have easily missed the POs by 10+ points.

Well, that's open for debate. But, I would argue that goaltending is the most important position in hockey, and Masons league leading 10 shut outs are really impressive.

So they should have nominated Pekka Rinne and given the Calder to him biggrin.gif

That probably would have happened had there not been Mason

In all honesty? I really wondered why the hell they nominated Mason instead of Rinne. Rinne has had just as good of a season as Mason, but somehow he got snubbed big-time. I just feel like the NHL is trying to promote Mason as the next big thing in goaltending and hence had to give the Calder to him because Thomas was overdue on a Vezina.
