oh, btw, QH, that 3rd goal wasn't a deflection per Jiggy... he said it was a straight shot-goal...
but that's beside the point... i don't think that's enough to crucify the guy... Hiller is good and i love him dearly (could have fooled ya, right?
i really hope that Hiller is here to stay though, not like Bryz, who was too old and too good to wait for the generation change...
aren't we spoiled by good goalie tandems? thank you Mr. Allaire

Hiller may be the future, but it's Jiggy's show now until his contract is up and he retires as a Duck.
Hiller's rebound control is not as good, he hasn't shown that he can play a whole season as a number 1.

The problem is that both Hiller and Giguere (depending on who was in net that night) were the only guys keeping the Ducks in games. Unfortunately, that hasn't continued. Over the past month, I'd go so far as to say that neither of them has been particularly sharp.
Fortunately, the Ducks are playing better as a group and I think that will give the goalies time to recover, find their focus and bring their games back up.
This seems a silly debate right now about who should start since frankly neither have been stellar over the past 2-3 weeks.
As for the numbers, that are highlighted at the top of this thread: Turco's save percentage was somewhere around .890 at the start of last night ... worse than either of our goalies and yet the Stars are still up on the Ducks in the standings.

I adore Hiller and think he's going to make a fantastic number one goalie one day, but right now it's Jiggy's spot. Hiller's still gaining experience and that's okay. He's got all the time in the world right now and he can take advantage of the experience he's gaining.

Well, Randy Carlyle has weighed in on the matter.
Here are his comments about Hiller to the OC Register's Curtis Zupke:

Wow, so much for his earlier "1a and 1b" comments.

I am going to try and give Carlyle the benefit of the doubt in that his 1a and 1b comments came when JSG was early in the midst of dealing with the loss of his father, IIRC, and RC was trying to turn the conversation from "now you have to depend on your back-up" into a vote of confidence for Hiller.
The comment doesn't look very consistent now, but put into context of each conversation and considering Carlyle's penchant to control the direction of interviews and what is being talked about, it makes sense to me. He doesn't let conversations go to controversial areas, like weakness in net or goalie controversies. I know from experience he is quick to cut things off at the pass.

Not me. I'm ticked that he made me a liar. He's finally lost me.

I'm sorry.. but exactly what does IIRC stand for? I've been trying to figure that one out and it's driving me nuts.

Just like Gerber and Bryz did and they're.... oh, wait...

Difference is...
Hiller IS our #1.
Gerber and Bryz were at best 1b's... they were backups who played well...
That and even during Bryz and Gerber's high times...
Jiggy never got booed by Ducks fans.
Jiggy IS getting booed by Ducks fans.
Like I told you yesterday during your radio show... unless you are here, you can't possibly understand.
It's crazy. It's sad... i feel bad for the guy, but he is not the Ducks #1 goalie.
He has no business being the #1 goalie.
If you asked me a year ago, I'd tell you I'd never say the following words... but...
I hope Jiggy doesn't start another game for the Ducks this season.
With any luck, he will be the #1 goalie again next year. Because that would mean he has shaken this funk... I HOPE HE SHAKES THIS FUNK.
There have been several games this year where I was there in person, watching Jiggy thinking "this is bad, he looks like he is lost, he just is not comfortable"... only to go home and watch my Tivoed copy of the game and think... "He doesn't look too bad. maybe I was being too hard on him."
for a long time I thought I was being rough on him, that he was not as out-of-sorts as I initially thought... but Fridays Edmonton game gave me a new perspective and I realized... it's the little things. the little things you don't see on TV, it's his posture, it's the way he clears snow out of his crease... it's his skating when he leaves the net... it's his sliding completely out of the crease on lateral movement... the things you can watch closely in person and are often not shown on TV...
it's simple realism at this point.
3.13GAA, .900 sv%, 2SO
vs
2.24GAA, .923 sv%, 4SO
Jiggy is not a #1 caliber goaltender right now... simple as that.
Thank God we have Jonas Hiller (one of the top Goalies in the league) to be our #1 till Jiggy gets his head back.
I would bet if we restarted this poll now... the results would be very different.

If anyone bashes me for it... well, they either are not going to games... or they are in denial.
there is not even a debate to be had about which Ducks goaltender should be carrying the load.
and again... that reality, makes me sad.
