Hmmm...well I'm not really sure if anyone was keeping up with my minor league exploits here in Seattle, but since Sunday was our last game of the regular season I thought I might share a bit. We've had a very up and down season and this final weekend was the ultimate example of that...Friday: we lose 1-9, Saturday: 4-3 win in overtime, Sunday: a glorious 10-0 win over arch rivals Everett. We head into the playoffs in 5th place and our opponent is 4th place Spokane, defending Memorial Cup champions. Spokane was decimated by food poisoning last week, to the extent that they had to cancel two games, in a bizarre twist. I can't even hazard a guess as to how we will fare in the post season, it's been a wacky year.

Some highlights- New building and our backloaded schedule (we've only had 5 away games in the second half), team captian Thomas Hickey winning the gold for Canada, starting goalie Jacob DeSerres upstaged by rookie goaltender Calvin Pickard (he is simply jaw-dropping at 16, I can't wait to see this kid progress), a couple of new overagers (Chris Cloud and Devon LaBlanc) making our team much tougher and some rookies that have me looking to the future. Oh yes, and Ducks prospect Stephan Warg! This kid is a big tough Swede who loves to play physical and has made great strides in his game since coming stateside.

As the season went, so goes the playoffs...inconsistant. After playing two great games in Spokane, (a win and a loss, both by 2-1 scores), the Birds come back to Seattle and lay an egg, a 1-5 loss. I simply do not know what is up with this team!! They had better log in a much better showing tonight or we'll be right out of the playoffs. mad.gif

Had a great trip to Spokane for game 2 though, their fans and staff are very hospitable. Here's some pictures: H2k in Spokane
