Boston University and Ohio State are playing on ESPN 2 right now.

Bonino scored the first goal for BU. It was a pretty pretty wrister from the right faceoff dot over the glovehand of the OSU goalie. I like what I see from him. Good pickup

Melrose is the commentator and says he's a late bloomer. Big and physical. He says he's definitely a Ducks type player.

Bonino looks like a real good pickup. I'm so pleased that we got him. To me it is very likely that he is a McNab acquisition or at least McNab had had his hands in this deal. Now I wonder if someone else of the Terriers could join our team. I have the feeling that McNab has looked at this team a little closer. Defenseman Matt Gilroy and forward and Bonino's linemate Chris Higgins are very interesting college FA.

How about Colin Wilson? I wouldn't mind having him. biggrin.gif

Boston won that game outright, but they got away with two, perhaps three different too many men on the ice calls late in that game including a puck clearly deflecting off a player's skate as he tried to get back to the bench.

Made it a point to get home to watch at least part of this game. As far as the two future Ducks go, Bonino playing for Boston wears #13, Vaive playing for Miami of OH wears #22.

Bonino tied the game with 17 seconds left to make it 3-3, completing comeback from a 1-3 deficit, to rally to a 4-3 overtime win in the final. We've got a hero in our pool... biggrin.gif

I would love it if we could sign Matt Gilroy this off-season.

I don't think we're in the mix, really. He's allegedly asking for a king's ransom ($3mio on a one-way contract) and I don't think our need for him is desperate enough, unless Scotty has decided he'll call it a career and Beauch is leaving for sure. A Vancouver radio station has also reported Gilroy is close to signing there...

He can't get a one-way deal, it has to be an entry-level contract. He'll probably choose a team he can play for right away. God knows his hometown Islanders could use him and insert him right away but he'll want to sign with a better team. But he won't sign here. We don't have room for him and we really don't need to break the bank on an unproven 24 year-old.

Nope, I'm pretty sure that due to age he does not have to get an entry level deal. It's all open. One way and as much bucks as someone will give him...

Toronto has their eyes on Gilroy ...

QUOTE
The development of "our young guns" was encouraging and the recent signings of top U.S. college prospects Christian Hanson and Tyler Bozak provides talent depth. Pitches have been made to land defenceman Matt Gilroy of the NCAA-champion Boston Terriers and free-agent Swede Jonas Gustavsson, who Burke considers the top goalie outside the NHL.

At his age, he qualifies as an entry-level player. Since he is 24, his contract length would only need to be one year.

$3 million is about the most he can get, and that's with performance bonuses. The amount an entry-level player can make is capped somewhere around $900,000. The performance bonuses could get him close to $3 million, but only if he hit the required bonuses. The NHL has limits on how easy it is to hit the bonuses. For example, Games Played for a skater is not an option. You can't set point requires below 40, for a defenseman, and other stats require the player to compete against his own teammates. He needs to be amongst the top of the team. TOI is the easiest bonus, but the monetary gains are fairly low.

I stand corrected. I seemingly misread certain statements, sorry for that. wink.gif

So much for Gilroy. I knew he'd go to the Rangers even though it must be killing the Islander in him. Colin Wilson also signed with Nashville today so let's hope Bonino signs soon too.

has Cam MacIntyre signed anywhere yet? he might be the best one still out there, if he hasn't already signed.

Don't think so but considering McNab has already signed Sharp and Sexton I wouldn't expect any more NCAA players coming our way. Plus Macenauer and MacMillan were each giving contracts earlier this year to go with Mitera and McCue I'd say we're stocked on rookies for next year.
