Link (Go to the last page if it dumps you to the first).

According to the "Hockey Transactions" web page, Nicolas Deschamps signed with the Chops on 3/31/09.

I thought he might have another year of juniors? And why an AHL contract? Are we low on available entry contracts? (Guess his chances of making the Big Club were pretty slim anyway...but still odd to me).

Comments?

Thanks!
Guess that proves it's a legit transaction, and not some random 'oops'. But guess I'm still interested in why it was only a minor league contract. Guess they figure he needs some professional "seasoning", and I assume we still hold his NHL rights.

It happens all the time. When junior players' seasons are over they can sign an Amateur Try-out (or an ATO) with an AHL club so they can get a handful of pro games under their belt. Once the season is over they still maintain their junior eligibility and more often than not go back to juniors the following September. Perry did it with Cincinnati in 04 and Geztlaf did it in 05. Deschamps will play one more year in the Q next season.

Ok...The world makes sense to me again. Guess I jumped to the conclusion that it was a longer term deal than that.

To date, he hasn't played in a game yet.
