TSN's Ice Chips

Defenceman Francois Beauchemin, attempting to return from reconstructive knee surgery, reported no problems after following up Tuesday’s two-hour practice with a one-hour workout Wednesday. He could be back on the ice Friday night against Dallas. - LA Times

Chuck Kobasew has an undisclosed injury and could be out tonight. The rest of the injured include winger P.J. Axelsson and defencemen Dennis Wideman and Andrew Ference, all of whom remained off the ice Wednesday. - Boston Globe

Dion Phaneuf sat out Thursday's practice and Mike Keenan said the blueliner will play Friday. The Flames practiced the power play for a few minutes at the end of practice, which was much needed since they have gone 0 for their last 37 including multiple lengthy 5-on-3 opportunities. - TSN

Peter Budaj is expected to start in goal tonight. Captain Joe Sakic (back) will meet with team doctors tonight to determine his playing status for the final two games this weekend. - Denver Post

Marty Turco could be available, but it looks like rookie Matt Climie could get his third straight start tonight against the Avs. - Dallas Morning News

Defenceman Mathieu Schneider practiced with the team in Boston this morning and intends to play tonight. Defenceman Yannick Weber was recalled from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League and will likely join him on the power play and do spot duty at forward. - RDS/TSN

David Legwand was hoping to wear a protective faceguard and play in the team’s final two games, coach Barry Trotz said Wednesday. But doctors have determined that Legwand’s fractured cheekbone is still too fragile to absorb any hits, even if protected by a facemask. - Tennessean

Patrik Elias (tightness in leg muscle) did not practice but made the trip to Ottawa and will be a “game-day or game-night decision,” according to coach Brent Sutter. Elias and Niclas Havelid (lower-body soreness) skated on their own before the team did, Sutter said. Havelid did not make the trip to Ottawa, but Sutter said the defenseman doesn’t necessarily have to play in the season finale Saturday against Carolina to be ready for the playoffs. - Newark Star-Ledger

Nik Antropov, who scored Tuesday despite absorbing a knee-to-knee collision one game earlier in Boston, and Sean Avery, whom Tortorella said “was banged around a little (Tuesday) night,” sat out practice, but both will be in the lineup tonight against the Flyers. - New York Daily News

Riley Cote will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his right ring finger. Cote suffered a dislocation of a knuckle in his finger in a fight with the Islanders' Joel Rechlicz at New York on March 28, then reinjured it last week against Toronto. Defenceman Ryan Parent said that his strained groin felt much better yesterday and that he hoped to play tonight against the Rangers in New York. Flyers coach John Stevens wasn’t as optimistic. Stevens said that Parent would skate with the team this morning but that he likely would not play until Saturday against the New York Islanders. Luca Sbisa’s junior team, the Lethbridge (Alberta) Hurricanes, is on the brink of playoff elimination and the rookie defenceman could be back in Philadelphia before the weekend. - Philadelphia Inquirer/Daily News

Captain Patrick Marleau (lower body injury) is expected to return to the lineup tonight. - Mercury News

Left wing Donald Brashear (sprained knee) is questionable for the final two games of the regular season. Defenceman Tom Poti might take a second consecutive game off to rest his nagging groin muscle strain. - Washington Post

Well, looks like the Rangers have clinched their spot as have the Canadiens. Buffalo and Florida are about to be eliminated which will wrap-up the eight playoff spots in the East. Nothing to worry about now but seeding.

As for the West - still some things to be determined both amongst the seeding and the participants.
