My son picked up a signed game-used stick at the last game reduced from $300 to $100. I don't think he'll ever be over Kuni's trade. Two guesses who he'll be rooting for in the playoffs?

Kuni is killing it in Pitt. I'm happy for him but it just shows how much of his talent and production Carlyle's system suppressed.

I couldn't agree more.

What a lucky guy he is to have the opportunity he does now. I hope he and Maureen find Pittsburgh livable.

We have seen the same thing happen with Doug Weight, it really doesn't come as much of a supprise any more... biggrin.gif

Congratulations are in order for the Kunitz family. Chris Kunitz and his wife, Maureen, are the proud parents of baby Zachary James Kunitz. The newest member of the family was born at 9:41 a.m. at 9-pounds, 2-ounces and 21 1/2 inches. Zachary is the couple's first child.

Now let's see if daddy can celebrate with a few goals and points against the Flyers.

He seems like he'll make a good dad.

That's a good size baby! Congratulations to the Kunitz family! My son will be watching and cheering the Penguins this afternoon.

I saw a picture of him during last night's Pens game. He's a sweetheart. He looks littler than I would have thought.

I saw Zach's pic and the interview with MadDog, too. Dad was sporting his big ol' grin as always, and was his usual positive, bright self... and son looked like a chip off the block.

I really miss that guy. The perpetual smiles and positive outlooks of the Kunitz/MacDonald/Selanne line will stay in my hockey memory forever. That was a line of good peeps if there ever was one.

After being traded from Anaheim to the Penguins in February, Kunitz scored seven goals in his final 20 regular-season games to play a huge role in the Pens' climb up the Eastern Conference standings.

But that goal-scoring pedigree is not helping Kunitz this spring. He has no goals in Pittsburgh's first 14 playoff games.

Zero. Zilch. Nada.

Anyone notice how Kunitz has always fumbled in the playoffs?

For the second time in three years, Chris Kunitz is slated to bring the Cup to his hometown for an official visit on Aug. 10. The 29-year-old forward won his second NHL title this spring with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was also a member of the Anaheim Ducks when they won the Cup in 2007 along with fellow Regina native Ryan Getzlaf.

The Cup is slated to be on display for photo opportunities at City Hall from 9 to 11 a.m. There will be a minimum $5 donation to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre in exchange for autographed pictures of Kunitz.
...
"Growing up playing hockey in Regina was a big part of my life, so to be able to share this with my hometown is an honour for me," Kunitz said in a prepared statement. "Being able to give back to the community by benefiting the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency makes the victory that much sweeter."

That changed this spring when his new wife Maureen gave birth to their first child, Zachary, who arrived on the first day of the NHL playoffs — April 15.

"Life changes so much," reflected the five-year NHL veteran. "Winning at this stage where you're new parents, it's a different level. It's more family oriented. For my son to be able to take a picture with Sidney Crosby — in 20 years they can look back and say, 'Your dad played with him' — and to get him to sit in the Cup, things like that, we didn't even think about that before because we weren't at that stage in life. Now that you are, it's extra special."

Pittsburgh Penguins forward and Regina native Chris Kunitz holds up an "I Love Regina" water bottle in the same way he held up the Stanley Cup.
(Bryan Schlosser, Leader-Post)

QUOTE
"These are the days you remember forever," said Kunitz, who went through the same process in 2007 after winning the Cup with the Ducks. "It always brings out a great crowd and it's such a great atmosphere with everybody talking to each other and their memories of the games and the trophy."

Fans were lined up by 7 a.m. waiting for their chance to get their picture taken with Lord Stanley and get an autograph from Kunitz. The event raised $3959.18 in donations that will go toward patient care and treatment at the Allan Blair Cancer Centre.

I love this wide-eyed moment:

Zachary Kunitz and his ride aboard the Cup...

Priceless.
