Ducks’ forward Petteri Nokelainen continues to recover from an upper body injury that caused him to miss the final three games of the Ducks first round series against the Sharks. He traveled with the team to Detroit however he did not skate Wednesday. - Orange County Register

Taylor Pyatt took part in the full practice on Monday, his first since coming back to the team. Head coach Alain Vigneault watched him in the gym before practice and told him he was practicing. Vigneault would not say if Pyatt was playing tomorrow. Willie Mitchell received an extra maintenance day and will practice Tuesday. The Canucks have had three of the last five days off. It was a fairly physical practice Monday by design with some scrimmaging. There was some chippiness between Ryan Kesler and Kevin Bieksa. Both players joked about it after. Ian Clark will be in town in the next couple of days to work with Roberto Luongo. - TSN

Vancouver blew a 3-0 lead in the third period before Salo hammered in a rebound with 1:13 remaining in regulation as the Canucks beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-3 Thursday night in the opener of their Western Conference Semifinal series.

Salo hit a wide-open net after Nikolai Khabibulin stopped Mason Raymond's point-blank shot on a 4-on-1 break. Ryan Johnson scored into an empty net with 15.5 seconds left, allowing the sellout crowd of 18,630 to exhale and celebrate the Canucks' franchise record-tying fifth consecutive playoff win.
