The Colorado Avalanche have hired Joe Sacco of the AHL as their head coach one day after firing Tony Granato and shaking up their front office.

First Dan Bylsma and now Joe Sacco. It's weird to see players that I remember wearing the Ducks uniform on the ice now spending their time behind the bench in a suit and tie but it's good to see that they are enjoying success after their playing careers end. Best of luck to Joe Sacco - he'll need it.

Congratulations to an original Duck! I must be getting old seeing ex-Duck players becoming coaches.

Yup, he does indeed. No goalie, a whole group of old, expensive players and underachieving youngsters (e.g. Stastny)

Stastny an underachiever???
He was a mid-second round pick that turned out to be a legitimate top-two line center.
We could desperately use some "underachievers" like Stastny.

Congrats to Sacco! Another awesome former Ducks player! BTW what team in the NHL has produced the most coaches? We seem to have done well with 2 coaches already.

probably Chicago...
that's just a guess, but I swear i hear "former Blackhawks player turned coach" more often than any other team.

Got to be Montreal Canadiens. I think they have five from one team in '77, that won the Cup: Jacques Lemaire, Bob Gainey, Mario Tremblay, Doug Risebrough, and Larry Robinson.

Oh good call...
plus they would be odds on favorite, just because they have been around so long.
either way it has to be an Original 6 team.

It just seems weird that an original Duck is now a NHL head coach.
Sacco will atleast teach the Avs how to skate fast.

Being a bear of little brain means that when I first saw the news, I wondered, when did Joe Sakic retire and turn to coaching?!
