Seems like the Habs had their heart set on Lecavalier....and when if FINALLY became evident that it wasn't happening, had a melt down.

And as a supporter of the Bruins, I have to say I'm just broken up about it

SI review of some of recent histories Free Agency mistakes
Link
A good review of what NOT to do.
Of interest to us Ducks fans was this mistake:
Todd Bertuzzi, right wing: two years, $8 million
Burke, the Ducks GM at the time, was far too loyal to a player who had starred for him (pre-Steve Moore) in their Vancouver days together. Neither the money nor term was flat outrageous, but Bertuzzi, according to a teammate "was toxic in the dressing room" during his one season with Anaheim. After one season in Calgary, Bertuzzi is again on the market.
Don't recall hearing that Bert was "toxic"....as well as ineffective.

I think Gomez can be a key player in Montreal. Hardly anyone pulls that off on the blueshirts. I wouldn't count him out.
And I say the Rags will go after Heatley, not Briere. But who knows.

I agree as taking Briere would do more to help the Flyers than the Rangers.

Edmonton bagged again!!!
I love it!
Even an Alberta native doesn't care to go to there. Can't wait to hear Oiler Nation's excuse for this...

This is what SHOULD have happened:
Heatley: "I want to be traded."
Bryan Murray: "Ok. I'll trade you. But first waive your NTC....entirely. Otherwise, you're staying."

Mission accomplished.
Oduya's contract numbers:
2009-10: $3.0 million
2010-11: $3.5 million
2011-12: $4.0 million
We're talking $10.5 million over three years for a guy who made $600,000 this past season. Welcome to the world of liberalized free agency.

There also was discussion of a $4 million bonus the Senators must pay Heatley. For weeks, reports said that payoff was due Wednesday. Now, according to TSN.ca, the bonus is due at 12:01 a.m. ET Thursday.
