I've been wondering the same thing. I'm pretty eager to hear what some of AD posters think of our new prospects.

Are you from Guelph or anything? Can you offer any insure info on Hollands game?

Oh and welcome to Allducks!

Not really. I've been to this thing a couple of times and to be honest, it's nothing special. They run the kids through a bunch of boring drills and none of them try real hard. The only player I saw at either camp that was really trying was Jake Gardiner last year. Times are tough and things like this are expensive and redundant when you consider most of these kids will be in training camp anyway. It's fun for us fans to watch but it's no big loss if it doesn't happen.

I always liked going because it was the only chance I would ever have to see these guys in person until they make the team. I know most will be invited to training camp but this gives me the chance to see them, and only them, for an extended period. When I go to training camp I'm more focused on the guys I know will be making the team.

I do believe, though, that the Ducks will be entering the Pacific Division Rookie Tournament which will be in San Jose this year. That should be in September and I am hoping to be able to attend as that is always well worth the time to see the best prospects for LA, Anaheim, San Jose and Phoenix.

I just want my summer hockey fix. I enjoyed hearing prospect reports, helps get a gauge on how each prospect compares to the others in our system. This will all happen in September sure, but the prospects camp helped fill that lull during the summer.

It will hamper comparisons to other prospects, as they will be co-mingled with the NHL players...

I suspect some will look VERY out of place, while others (Gardiner) will shine that much more brightly. I am excited to see Gardiner skate in comparison to roster players(see if he still looks as shockingly good)

I am from ontario and have seen this kid play alot
I really like the way he plays
he is a big kid who is a great skater, and not just for his size
he has a great shot and always seems to make the right pass very rarely giving the puck away
he is solid defensively and is rarely caught out of position
he drives the net hard and has great hands down low
when he is at his best he controls the play every second he is on the ice

the only knock that i may have on this kid is that he needs to assert himself physically on a more conisitant basis considering his size, but with that being said i believe that it will come later, as i have seen him make the big hit on a few occasions

The advantage of the prospects camp is that it introduces the players to the system and gets them started on the right track with nutrition and conditioning and what they have to do off-ice to succeed. I seem to recall talking to a couple of guys at training camp that expressed how much it helped being at the prospects camp. It seems to ease the transition and really give them a good head start towards what they need to do to make the club eventually.

I can also understand money issues. Brent Severyn's contract was up this year as color guy for the radio. It might just be Steve Carroll up in the booth again this year, all by himself. Again - saves money.

I would be very surprised to see Gardiner at training camp since he's still in college. In the past, while the college players have participated in the prospect camp, they haven't attended training camp.

There are NCAA eligibility rules that come into play here too. For things like the prospect camp and conditioning camp, NCAA players have to pay their own way or they will be considered pro.

As a side note, the benefit of the conditioning camp isn't so much the on-ice stuff but a lot more to do with training for the NHL. Prospects leave the conditioning camp with a training plan, a nutritional plan, a lot of knowledge on things they need to work on and advice on how to start to reach their potential. To a player, every prospect I've talked to after coming back from their first NHL training camp marvels at how strong, how talented, how dedicated and just how good all the NHL players are, from the scrubs right up through to the stars. They're almost overwhelmed when they realise how much work has to be done to get to that level. Things like the conditioning camp help identify the work required and breaks it down for them to start the journey.

There is supposed to be an on-ice portion on September 5 and 6, then they go to San Jose on September 7-9. I had to get dates from the Ducks so I could schedule some stuff. Times to be determined.

First on-ice for main training camp is September 13. I will be worshiping at the house of Anaheim Ice that day, church later that evening.

Did this date get changed? I had the 6th written on my calendar, but do not recall where I got that info from.

Seeing as he has to pay his own way I can see why he didn't do it again. Last year I'm sure he wanted to get familiar with the Ducks staff and show them what he's got in person. Mitera only went to this thing once I believe and Bonino is not here either. I was really hoping a old team mate of my brother's, Brandon Marino formerly of Bemidji State, would get an invite. Oh well maybe he'll turn up on some ECHL roster this year.

It's interesting how the Ducks designate numbers. They appear to me to clearly represent a pecking order in regards to where these kids sit on the depth chart but with a few exceptions like Holland and Brittain. But most of the other numbers kind of show where all of these kids are in terms of their development.

For example Belesky has been given a new, much lower number going from 64-39. Now I might be reading too much into this which is entirely possible because I am out of work and bored out my mind right now. It is interesting to think about.
