The Las Vegas Strip, Yankee Stadium and the Rose Bowl are on the list of potential sites for the NHL's annual outdoor game, NHL chief operating officer John Collins said Wednesday.

Not to mention they also have the BCS Championship game there a week later on the 7th.

Unless they change the date of the Winter Classic, that wouldnt happen.

And I know that the date of the Rose Bowl Game wont be moved for anything.

Interesting to read the comments... see how many of the "knowledgeable" hockey fans from Canada don't know it's possible to make and maintain a sheet of ice in warm weather... and in fact, have no idea that an outdoor game has already been played in Vegas.

if it's so cal...

the Rose Bowl doesn't make sense...

but the Colosseum does

Hockey at the Rose Bowl would be, well, cool

There's nothing now planned for the Rose Bowl or anywhere else, according to Bernadette Mansur, the NHL's senior vice president of communications. She added that the Bloomberg story was inaccurate in saying NHL officials had visited Las Vegas to scout game sites when they were really discussing moving the annual awards show there from Toronto.
...
"Jan. 1 would not work for us," said Darryl Dunn, general manager of the Rose Bowl.

"But I know about the success of the game in Chicago. It would be a first for us. The Rose Bowl's history has included a number of great events, but one thing we've never had is a hockey game."
...
The Kings and Dodgers have a business relationship, so why not extend that to include an outdoor game?

"It would be a great thing," Robitaille said.

Josh Rawitch, a Dodgers spokesman, didn't rule it out.

"There have not been any discussions about bringing the NHL to Dodger Stadium," he said via e-mail, "but organizationally, we're known to be pretty open-minded about things."

New Rumored Sites for Winter Classic include Vegas and Pasadena

Ducks or Kings listed as possible teams to play

I read this on yahoo.com that the Rose Bowl or Vegas could be the next stop for the Winter Classic....there is a tiny mention of the Anaheim Ducks as one of the teams....that would be totally awesome to see the Ducks play outdoors on ice....just wanted to add some buzz. goducks1ux5.gif

If the Ducks play outdoors... hate to say it... it better be in Edmonton... or maybe Minnesota.

I hate to agree with the know-nothings on the tsn comments... but the Winter classic really should be in cold climates.... Ideally they would even have snow during the game.

True, but it would be fun for a freeway face off out doors, Dodger or Angel stadium!

angel stadium is too easy.... i mean in a sense of who the home team is.

Honestly, the ducks could almost use their own locker rooms smile.gif

Well, if it was Angle, Ducks are home, Dodgers, Kings are home.

Hawks were home at Wrigley

I want Boston to get it, for obvious reasons but also for historical ones.

Probably never gonna happen though.

Home Depot Center!!!! As for Dodger Stadium, that's just nuts. Parking is a nightmare and most of the LA crowd won't show up until around the middle of the second period, only to leave around the first 5 minutes of the third. And they will want free bobble heads of Manny. biggrin.gif

im sorry but a outdoor game in california or las vegas just seems unrealistic and really should be kept somewhere in a winter climate.

[quoteDon’t breathe a word of this. Because nobody’s supposed to know. But the Boston Bruins will host the NHL’s Winter Classic outdoor hockey game against an unnamed opponent Jan. 1 at Fenway Park![/quote]

Ice is nice at Fenway for Bruins

Why do they keep shrinking the size of the F*King venue? I don't care if Boston has the game but Fenway is an old and creaky place that fits, what 30,000 fans? Put the game at Gillette and fill the place ya jerks it will look MUCH Better for the game than to keep shaving the crowd by tens of thousands per year.

they're obviously going with historic venues first... helps build the buzz...

Fenway, for that reason is an excelent choice...

now lets see how smart they are... there really is only one intelligent choice for the opponent...

Canadiens de Montreal

well for rivalry reasons, montreal would be a very wise, great choice but do you think with montreal already having played an outdoor game, maybe NYR would get the upper hand??

No..

I know it was an Outdoor game but it wasn't a winter classic

also, it would appease the Canadian fanbase who is getting frustrated byt he lack of love for Canadian teams.

NBC televises this and they do not want a Canadian team involved. They would, however, like to get Alexander Ovechkin involved in one of these so look for a Capitals/Bruins game at Fenway Park.

I think it would be fun to see the team who wins the Stanley Cup in about two months be part of the outdoor festivities in January.

I think if Pittsburgh was hosting it,Washington and ovechkin would be a great choice but not for Boston. Thats not much of a rivalry compared to a Bos vs Mont/NYR. I think it'll either be Montreal or NYR

Pittsburgh/Buffalo isn't exactly a storied rivarly either but the league wanted Sidney Crosby to be in the first Winter Classic...so he was. I think they are anxious to get Alexander Ovechkin (soon to be the back-to-back Hart Trophy winner) on the national stage as well. Just a hunch.
