When countryman Jonathan Hedstrom got his first NHL goal, he said he felt he might as well try it because he was skating with Pahlsson, and "he wasn't going to score."
"That's what I tell him," said Teemu Selanne, proud son of Finland. "Swedes can't score."
...
Counterattacking after Phaneuf pinched and got himself out of position, Pahlsson whizzed the fourth goal of the game past Kiprusoff in Calgary. That turned out to be the swing goal in the 4-3 victory.
"That was a bomb," Selanne said. "But that's why we keep telling him to shoot the puck more. He's got that kind of talent. And that's the way he plays when he's back in Sweden. But when he gets back here, I don't know, it's like he doesn't think he's supposed to shoot the puck. And we need him to do that because he could put a lot of pressure on the defense.
"But you know Swedes, they're not that smart."
Great needling by Teemu!
