Yes, but only because he wasn't going to sign a new contract.

yes, for the same reason. Pronger is getting older and we got a great deal back so its a win win for both clubs. Philly now and for the ducks future.

Yes, 5 reasons:

- He wasn't going to re-sign.

- He hadn't been himself since winning the Cup, He was lazy and RARELY fired a one timer form the point, preferring to pass it off to someone who didn't have a shot or to give up a turn-over.

- Joffrey Lupul, We needed the speed and offense, Lupul is a known quantity, so I like this move.

- Luca Sbisa, Kid's going to be a stud.

- The reputation he carries, was hurting this team more than his play was helping.

If I had a nickel for every time Pronger didn't keep the puck in the zone last season, I could be a very rich woman.

We got two players for the price of one in Lupul and Sbisa. One can provide offense. The other has a lot of years ahead of him as a defenseman.

We got rid of a big salary.

Pronger is no longer in the same conference, meaning he won't come back and bite us very often. Once or twice a year, barring a SCF series.

It seemed to be a win-win-win situation for everyone involved. Does our D suffer? Yes, a little bit, but not significantly.

yes, because he wasent going to re-sign, and he was taking to many stupid penalties.

but we are gonna miss him and as if losing him wasent bad enough then we also lost Beauchemin!

Murray is really going to need to sign or trade to get a defencmen, but Luca Sbisa is a beast! ots.gif goducks1ux5.gif

I really thought Lupul would be better, but the carlyle juggling machine hasn't been good for him, why did we have to take his contract? he makes not even 2 mil less than Pronger!

Sbisa is back in jr's, yes he's talented but ask yourself, will he ever be as good as Pronger is now? Pronger is at a PPG clip amongst the league leaders in ice time and +/- what we really miss is his TOUGHNESS, the D just gets abused way to much and those rebounds Hiller leaves aren't cleared away.

We coulda kept Pronger and Niedermayer together, Pronger signed a 7 year extension, while Nieds is likely to retire next year, so what are we left with? Whitney, Wiz, and a bunch of marginal players and who knows if Sbisa will be ready

I thought we had good value at the time but the fact is those firsts are late firsts and Lupuls cap hit the next few years is slightly lower than Prongers.......in hindsight i don't like it as much, Giguere shoulda been gone by any means to keep Pronger, we still coulda signed Koivu and found someone as productive as lupul, cheaper

I never liked the trade. The Ducks were so close to beating Detroit, who I felt would have beaten Pittsburgh had they iced a healthy lineup and yet Murray decided to trade one of the biggest reasons we got to where we did. Sure secondary scoring cost us the series, but Pronger is the type of guy you can't replace and the Ducks would be much better off with Pronger than with Lupul + Eminger + Boynton + Sbisa in juniors.

No team who has traded Pronger has made the playoffs the year after and it looks like the trend is going to continue. What could have been another cup run is instead yet another bad start, mainly due to an inferior defense and atrocious special teams, both areas which Pronger excelled in.

I agree we were still close to winning the cup, all we needed was a 2nd line which we STILL could have gotten AND kept/extended Pronger just by removing giguere at any cost, if it would've taken a prospect or pick to get him gone it shoulda been done. the value at the time was viewed as good but the way Pronger makes it sound the ducks were determined to trade him, which is funny b/c Niedermayer left us hanging half a year and an entire summer while Pronger never did anything like it..............

I love Pronger, but we got a great package for him, and we had a slow start last year with him. And for what it's worth, Philly has been inconsistent this year with him.

You have to build a team that can compete for many years, not just throw everything into one year, and we added the pieces to do that by trading Pronger.

I am fully confident Pronger will still be a top pairing defenseman when he's 40 and yes they did have a slow year with Pronger, but that was mainly to do with how atrocious our number 3-6 guys were. Festerling, Hedican, Mikkelson and Brookbank aren't exactly a solid bottom 4, the Ducks were hovering between 4th and 5th in the conference when Beauchemin got hurt. Philadelphia's in a slump right now but Pronger has been by far their best player and IMO is a favorite for the Norris right now despite his teams performance.

Philly has the same number of points as we do at present time.

I think the trade was a necessary thing to do, although I don't agree with the notion that our Defense suffored slightly. It suffored a major blow and it shows. We are clearly not the same team this year as we were in 07. Pronger wasn't the only piece to this puzzle, but he was a big piece.

Like I said though, it was an unfortunate necessity.
