An Idea

we had 3 Fire Carlyle threads started yesterday and I'm deathly afraid of the new influx of official board members ruining this board by turning it into the official board with all its clutter and crap.
I'm just thinking if we make them wait, maybe it will give them time to learn the difference between "Add Reply" and "New Topic"

Why should newbies to the board miss out on all the fun of their first reaming by the logical wrath of DK?
The reason the official board members are migrating is because they need the structured, polite and excellent guidance of the Allducks mods and staff. Best in the message board business! (Is there an internet award for best board mods? - They would probably win hands down in the NHL category)

It might create a new problem though. People might just start post whoring til they hit that 100 post mark.

There is always a slight wobbly finding your way about period when you join new boards. We've all been new at some point and I don't think it's fair to create a split in the level of members. I know I probably would have been less likely to participate at the start if this rule was in place.
I would rather not have to spend my time tidying up post spamming so someone can have the privilege of starting a thread. It not as if we spend all our time deleting duplication threads as it is. It's just something that crops up every so often however that's why we're here.
The ability to start a thread no matter what the topic should belong to all members IMHO.
Allducks is a wonderful site that makes everyone feel like they can join in, why change that?

Oh there is that...
I'd personally rather see lame "Me too" posts than lame "Me too" threads...
though neither would be ideal
It's not the "time to time" that's a problem.
Have you seen how big a mess the official boards are?
when i looked yesterday they had no less than 4 variations of fire Carlyle threads, all running concurrently.

Valid point.
I was just suggesting it as I know the influx of new members who think this site runs like the official boards may have a noticeable impact on the amount of work required of our Mods...
Tryin to help ya out!
(i've seen it done on other boards with varying levels of success)

No, because I don't visit it and have no plans to. We aren't that place and just because some members have left it doesn't mean this site will transform into a carbon copy. It hasn't happened before when we had people who swapped boards so why is it so different now?
Besides to me, that clearly suggested that the don't have a decent mod system if they have 4 separate threads
You have suggested an idea, fair enough, you are entitled to your opinion and so I am. I just play here and try my best to make it a fun place for others to spend some time
Methinks we will have to agree to disagree Todrick

This board isn't a carbon copy because we have some standards here which are not only enforced by the great staff, they are fairly well respected and followed by our membership.
I believe Todrick is merely suggesting a method to hold up a standard, and I think it's a good idea.
If people don't want to take the time to learn how things are done here and are so itchy to start a thread, there are many places they can join others just like them. And if they choose to spam to get around the post threshold standard, better everyone sees their real intentions and can block them so as not to have their time wasted.

I agree. Well said. This doesn't make AD any less welcoming than it already is nor does it create categories. It ensures we stay organized and save the mods some time mopping up

That's what I want to happen as an example of the difficulty the mods have mopping up around here. After all, newbies should get to know DTP as he is the resident bot and goalie girl dribble magnet!
(and he's seriously late cleaning up my original mess!)

Better late than never??

Whoa! Musketeer! Where in the world have you been hiding?
I highly doubt a majority of our members have read our board guidelines, and more highly doubt that we'll be able to guarantee newbies read them. I'm with Barmy that it could be a little onerous for newbies to have to get to 100 posts in order to start a topic. They can have new topic worthy things to post just as much as the rest of us. I hate spam and worthless posts a lot more than having to get out my mop and merge mod tools.

I haven't been hiding exactly. I usually lurk everyday at least once. I just don't have much to add to the conversation anymore. Even with the WinterHawks, Portland isn't exactly a hotbed of hockey. Now IF I could afford to live down there ....
You don't realize how homesick I get for SoCal sometimes. This is Reb, roger wilco and out.

Reb I tried emailing you and it bounced. Would you please PM me your email address? And you always have something to add to the conversation, musketeer. All for one and one for all...

DK, I sent you an email today that had a lot of pumpkin carvings along with the doggie model. Perhaps you can post it in the off topic section so everyone can enjoy. I'm sure DTP would appreciate it. You can pick my addy from there. Or maybe I'll PM you anyway.

Yeah the only reason i read the rules and guidelines was due to the wrath of DK. After one embarrassing post I decided to read up so he didnt come to attack again

I think he's exaggerating the "wrath" part just a little bit
