It's coming ... hopefully our trainers have our boys educated on avoiding the flu! clover.gif

QUOTE
On Tuesday, the Colorado Avalanche confirmed that backup goalie Peter Budaj has swine flu, but that no other players have come down with the H1N1 virus.
...
The casualty list keeps growing in Oil country. First came Ales Hemsky and Ladislav Smid, and then Gilbert Brule and Mike Comrie.
...
The NHL's protocol for dealing with the flu virus includes everything from the regular use of hand sanitizers to using separate water bottles and towels, but the league is taking a wait-and-see approach to an outbreak, saying it will review all situations that arise.

Maybe that's what the Ducks' problem has been ohmy.gif Or maybe they could just blame it on it laugh.gif

Ah hah! You're probably on to something there DK! Perhaps one of the ways our boys are avoiding catching H1N1 is to limit contact with the opposing players on the ice!

This is a sore subject with me right now watching all the flu circling around me at work and not having the option of getting the vaccine. By the time it gets past the priority groups I will have the virus and the vaccine will be a moot point. I mean I could use some days off from work but I don't want to be worshipping the porcelain god the whole time. Didn't we know a year ago that this was coming? How much advance notice does the government need to be prepared.

Hand sanitizers and coughing into your elbow, I mean really that only goes so far.

My office has been affected by two puzzling viral infections. One that gives you flu like nausea, pounding headache, fever and lack of any type of will to get out of bed for three days (that would be mine and one other here - we were both over it in 4 days, but slept the whole time), and the more scary one that has children running fevers for more than 4 days and adults walking around like zombies with bronchial problems.

When asking at the care centers what they can do, the doctors say it's "a viral infection" and just out last it with the help of tylenol. They never say it's any kind of swine flu but doctors around here and Long Beach are seeing their waiting rooms filled with adults and children alike and people are waiting around 6 hours to see anyone.

Everyone is confused.

From what I understand is not to ignore respiratory symptoms - which require medical intervention.

In some ways I'm grateful my youngest already had a touch of this in the summer. He came home from camp and was ill the entire month of August. Most of it was a sinus infection and raging fever (103+ for about 4 days straight) and then a reaction to the antibiotics that they gave him. But when your 12 year old is napping, happily, every day for a couple hours and still going to bed at the normal time and sleeping in every morning, there's more than a sinus infection. He was never officially tested but there were other kids at camp that did test positive. I figure he's already got the immunities.

It won't be pretty if more teams start spreading it around.

i live in boise and had a confirmed case of H1N1....the test suuuuuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeed....but i guess i got kind of lucky because the "bad" part only last about 24hrs. and i just felt like i had a cold for a few days after....but i got sick on oct.2 and i was soooooooooooo sick i couldnt move or open my eyes prob. because i had a 104 degree fever but i remember thinking how pissed i was because i didnt think i would be able to open my eyes to watch the ducks season opener...but i was fine.....IMO i think there is a lot of hype with this but like i said i could have just been lucky...from what i was told by the doctor....it more dangerous with people who have other health issues such as diabeties, heart conditions, or other chronic conditions.....all in all i learned to keep hand sanatizers with me where ever i go... and to use it when ever you touch doors, shake hands, etc. but especially money....

if anyone feels like they have symptoms PM me and i can do my best to explain what i went through

Here's hoping our Ducks staff pack the disinfectants on the next road trip ...

“Just by watching practice you can tell we’ve got a lot of sick people,” Mike Babcock said. “As soon as we were in Edmonton, we knew we were in trouble. When their whole team was sick and we were there two days … we did everything we could to stay away, but we knew that was a possibility."
...
While in Edmonton last Wednesday and Thursday, the Wings took the unusual step of assigning water bottles to every player in hopes of avoiding the H1N1 flu that was going around Edmonton’s locker room. The Oilers, too, had been in Vancouver’s visitors room right before the Wings took over for their game against the Canucks.

What did the test entail? Because they think I may have had a case of the Swine over summer but I don't think they can test for it anymore, can they?

They stick a swab up both of your nostrils. Like the strep-throat test for your nose.

At this rate with where we stand in points we can ill afford an outbreak of swine flu that may be inevitable, not counting any potential injuries or Duck breathing on another teams player suspensions. It may very well be a long trying season for us Duck fans.

The league will probably hand deliver the H1N1 virus to the locker room.

That's. . . not fun. I've had a strep-throat test before and that didn't go well for me OR the doctor. I think I'll skip this one out and just pretend I was never sick.

Alberta Health Apologizes for Giving Flames Early H1N1 Shots

Alberta Health Services says it's sorry that members of the Calgary Flames were given swine flu shots at a special clinic last Friday as thousands of people waited in line for the vaccine or were turned away.

Dr. Gerry Predy, senior medical officer of health, apologized on behalf of the agency, which reports directly to the Alberta government.

"We do apologize," Predy said Wednesday at a news conference.

"It was not something we believe should have happened. We do believe it is an isolated incident."

<TSN link>

QUOTE
Alberta Health Minister Ron Liepert said he wants to know if the shots were "inappropriately diverted" to the hockey players while other Albertans stood in line for hours.

"There is only one supplier in the province and that's us," he said. "They would only be diverted with the approval of the chief medical officer of health."
...
In Edmonton, Allan Watt, the Oilers' vice-president of communications, said the team is keeping on top of the players' health but has not made any H1N1 vaccination arrangements for them.

"If a player wants to get a shot he can go to a clinic just like any other person," said Watt.

QMJHL Moncton Wildcats games cancelled ...

QUOTE
Team officials announced Tuesday night that two players had swine flu and 15 additional players and staff members are suffering from flu-like symptoms.

"You know the worst case scenario came through in some senses, however no one is hospitalized, they're mild cases you know, generally speaking, and we're looking forward to a safe and speedy recovery," said the team's general manager Bill Schurman.
...
But on Wednesday, Schurman told reporters that players got their shots at a clinic that was open to the public.

He said they were given the shots on Friday, but it takes at least a week for the vaccine to take full effect and players started getting sick that same day.

It appears the team should've encouraged their players to be more like any other person ...
