Erik Christensen in 2009-2010:

6 games
0 goals
0 assists
5 shots
4 hits
-2

This guy is awful and it bothers me that he is still here, and getting ice time, while Andrew Ebbett was sent packing. I want to hear all the Christensen supporters tell me how wrong I am, again, and that this guy is a stud just waiting to bust out. Or how he was injured in the past but he's healthy now. He found a way to not score with an empty net staring at him in the first period yesterday, he's not a physical presence, he's not worth a damn in the defensive zone and his only marketable skill (shootouts) is irrelevant because the Ducks suck too much to ever get to one.

Yeah, yeah - all the Ducks are struggling right now, but only three forwards have played in six or more games and have yet to score a point - Todd Marchant, George Parros and this stiff. Marchant hits, hustles and is a guy that we've seen play very good hockey for the Ducks in the past. Parros is a fighter and he's doing his job. Christensen? Nothing. What does this stiff bring to this team? Hell, even Nick Boynton has an assist this season and he's spent the majority of his time shuffling between the press box and the third defensive pairing!

I only bring this up because I talked all summer about how crappy this guy was and I was told time and again that I was wrong. Well, I wasn't. He sucks and he should never have been re-signed. I hope he is placed on waivers soon and then, when nobody claims him, he's sent to Bakersfield where he belongs.

The guy just can't get past the Psychological part of his game. It's pathetic really and when he misses wide open nets it gets worse. I was willing to give him another shot this season because of his injury last, but he's wasting space out there. Unacceptable for his skill set.

If he doesn't get things going fast, then choosing him over Ebbett was a bad decision. Although in reality we don't need either.

It's a shame that we gave a good prospect in O'Dell for him...
Still, I hope he does get picked up by some team.

Christensen is another in a long line of failed forward of the last three years.

It has definitely turned out to be a bad trade for the Ducks.

Sadly, I was right all along on this guy. I wish I had been wrong and that he turned out to be a great addition to the team who helped them win a lot of games but he was exactly what I expected him to be when the trade happened and when they re-signed him - a waste of minutes. He just doesn't do anything well and he is not, in my opinion, an NHL caliber player. I would be surprised if he is claimed off waivers and, as I said earlier, I expect him to end up in Bakersfield by the end of the week.

I'd love to hear from Sojourn and DucksFan39 to find out whether or not they feel this is a mistake by the Ducks since they were the two people I argued with the most over the summer about the Ducks decision to re-sign Dream Crusher and his potential with the team.

Well, I was pretty vocal that the Ducks needed to re-sign him. As I said at the time, I felt they paid a high price to obtain him in dealing O'Dell and that they needed to protect their investment.

Frankly, I think Erik is another one of those players who never really established a particular role for himself on the team. OTOH, I think he's also one who never had a consistent opportunity from the coach either. I'm amazed at the long leash that Festerling and Mikkelson got/get from Carlyle and how others like Miller, Carter and Christensen are bounced up and down the lines like a yo yo and in and out of the line up.

Despite the repeated talk I see here about Carlyle being good at developing young talent, I honestly think the opposite is quite true - and, as a result - it is why we've seen a long line of Mark Motzko's come in and out of town instead of growing our own young players. Outside of Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan and Mikkelson, I'm hard pressed to think of any other young players that have stuck. And, I'd hardly give credit to Randy on those forwards. It was their talent, not his coaching, that has them in the NHL.

I don't think Christensen will be a huge loss or anything, but I think it was a waste of O'Dell and his departure sure as shoot isn't going to propel this team onto a playoff track.

Quite bluntly, it's change for the sake of avoiding the real issue: Randy Carlyle.

Center Erik Christensen was placed on waivers, meaning other teams have until 9 a.m. Tuesday to claim him or the Ducks can re-assign him to the minor leagues.

Coach Randy Carlyle said that if Christensen wasn’t claimed, they would like him to try to improve and regain confidence at the lower level.

The reality is that Christensen wasn't a good fit for the Ducks style of play. He's aware of his deficiencies but as he said earlier, it's hard to balance those out when you aren't allowed to play in situations that have always been your strengths. Apparently he approached Carlyle about his future on the team and broached the subject. I wish him the best of luck, and agree he wasn't the right fit in Anaheim.
