Winger Teemu Selanne suffered a fractured bone in his hand on Thursday and will be out 4-6 weeks. - Dallas Morning News

Zdeno Chara was the only Bruin not to practice Thursday, though he skated on his own after practice. Head coach Claude Julien termed it a "maintenance day.'' Chara was shaken up momentarily Wednesday when he was struck by an Andrej Meszaros slap shot, but the captain didn't miss any shifts. - Boston Globe

Goaltender Patrick Lalime was sent to Portland of the American Hockey League on Thursday for a two-game conditioning assignment. Lalime, who has just three appearances this season and none since Nov. 21, will start for the Pirates Friday and Saturday before returning to Buffalo on Sunday. - Buffalo News

Goalie Cam Ward faced practice shots from his teammates Thursday for the first time since the freak injury that sidelined him on Nov. 7. Head coach Paul Maurice said he remains hopeful that Ward will be ready for Wednesday's road game against the New Jersey Devils. Maurice also said he expects Chad LaRose and Jussi Jokinen to be in Saturday's lineup against the Vancouver Canucks. - News Observer

Jonas Gustavsson underwent a repeat heart ablation procedure on Friday. The doctors said they are confident they fixed Gustavsson's heart condition. The first procedure took place on September 15, 2009 during training camp. The determination was made after Gustavsson was examined on Wednesday by medical specialists. - TSN

Defenceman Carl Gunnarsson sustained a hyperextension injury to his elbow in Monday's game against Buffalo. He is expected to be out of the lineup for approximately six weeks. - Team Release
