Forward Martin Erat left the ice early during Friday's practice, but Trotz said it was just to conserve energy for the many upcoming games. - Tennessean

nyi.png Goaltender Rick DiPietro will make his next rehab start Saturday in Springfield. DiPietro will start again Tuesday in Bridgeport to complete his three-game conditioning stint. After his assignment in Bridgeport is complete, it will be up to the Islanders' coaches to determine how and when to work him into the goaltending rotation. - Newsday

Goaltender Jonas Gustavsson practiced with the team on Saturday morning and split time with Joey MacDonald. Vesa Toskala will get the start in goal against the Capitals. - TSN

van.png Defenceman Alex Edler is week-to-week with a shoulder injury and Michael Grabner is skating every other day but is still feeling some pain in his foot. He's been out six weeks with a broken foot and there is no timetable for his return. - TSN

wsh.png The team had plane trouble and did not arrive in Toronto until Saturday morning for their game against the Maple Leafs. They did not hold a morning skate. - TSN

Goaltender Semyon Varlamov, who suffered a strained groin muscle on Monday, has been placed on injured reserve. That means he cannot return until Tuesday at the earliest, though head coach Bruce Boudreau said the rookie goalie could be out until Dec. 23. - Washington Post
