TSN's Ice Chips

Winger Joffrey Lupul missed Friday's game against Detroit because of numbness in his leg, but the team didn't disclose which one. A club spokesman said Lupul's status will be evaluated Saturday. - LA Times

Defenceman Dennis Wideman (upper-body) was given Friday off but is expected to suit up Saturday. - Boston Globe

The Flames had an unscheduled practice Saturday morning after a less than stellar effort against the Wild Friday night. It was an up-tempo practice but nothing out of the ordinary. Defenceman Adam Pardy (wrist) skated on his own. - TSN

Forwards Erik Cole and Chad LaRose were placed on injured reserve Friday. Cole is expected to miss up to three weeks because of an upper-body injury, and LaRose could be out up to four weeks with a lower-body injury. - The Canadian Press

Forward Sergei Samsonov (lower-body) was held out of Friday's loss to the Capitals. - News Observer

Winger Fredrik Modin (knee) was activated off the injured reserve list and is expected to play Saturday against Anaheim. - Columbus Dispatch

Andrew Ebbett (concussion) will be out for an indefinite amount of time. ''He'll be out until he's symptom free,'' said general manager Chuck Fletcher. - Pioneer Press

Defenceman Andrei Markov skated for a full hour by himself on Friday and will accompany the team to Atlanta. He won't play Saturday, but will meet with team doctors on Monday. - RDS

Defenceman Shea Weber did not practice Friday but head coach Barry Trotz said it was a maintenance day, adding ''there's no chance he wouldn't play'' Saturday. Forward Martin Erat left the ice early during Friday's practice, but Trotz said it was just to conserve energy for the many upcoming games. - Tennessean

Goaltender Rick DiPietro will make his next rehab start Saturday in Springfield. DiPietro will start again Tuesday in Bridgeport to complete his three-game conditioning stint. After his assignment in Bridgeport is complete, it will be up to the Islanders' coaches to determine how and when to work him into the goaltending rotation. - Newsday

Centre Brandon Dubinsky (broken hand) joined practice for the first time on Friday with a hard protective cast and no restrictions on contact. He will be X-rayed Saturday at the Garden. - New York Daily News

Brian Elliott will get the start against on Saturday. Alexander Picard will make his return after missing four games with an upper-body injury. Chris Campoli will be a healthy scratch. - TSN

Winger Simon Gagne (abdominal surgery) will travel to New Jersey, Boston and Pittsburgh this week and skate with the team before he meets with doctors on Wednesday to determine his availability. - Philadelphia Daily News

Head coach Dan Bylsma said Friday that left wing Chris Kunitz 'is getting close' to returning from a lower-body injury that has cost him 13 straight games. Kunitz has not played since Nov. 12. Defenceman Sergei Gonchar did not practice on Friday because of a 'maintenance day'. - Tribune Review

Centre Steven Stamkos and winger Ryan Malone left Wednesday's home game against Edmonton and were questionable coming into Friday's game. But both were in the lineup against the Avalanche. - Tampa Tribune

Luke Schenn could be out of the lineup on Saturday against the Capitals. Both Garnet Exelby and Jeff Finger said they would be playing. When asked if there would be changes to his defensive pairings, head coach Ron Wilson smiled and said "possibly."
Goaltender Jonas Gustavsson practiced with the team on Saturday morning and split time with Joey MacDonald. Vesa Toskala will get the start in goal against the Capitals. - TSN

Defenceman Alex Edler is week-to-week with a shoulder injury and Michael Grabner is skating every other day but is still feeling some pain in his foot. He's been out six weeks with a broken foot and there is no timetable for his return. - TSN

The team had plane trouble and did not arrive in Toronto until Saturday morning for their game against the Maple Leafs. They did not hold a morning skate. - TSN

Goaltender Semyon Varlamov, who suffered a strained groin muscle on Monday, has been placed on injured reserve. That means he cannot return until Tuesday at the earliest, though head coach Bruce Boudreau said the rookie goalie could be out until Dec. 23. - Washington Post
