Winger Joffrey Lupul said he's improving but sat for the second consecutive game Saturday as he deals with numbness in his leg that's a symptom of the back issues that have troubled him all season. He's hopeful he'll be ready for Wednesday's game at Vancouver. - Orange County Register

Head coach John Anderson has confirmed defenceman Mark Popovic has a broken foot and will miss 3-4 weeks. - Atlanta Journal Constitution

The two Bruins who were somewhat questionable for Saturday night - defenceman Dennis Wideman, with an undisclosed upper-body injury, and winger Byron Bitz, who'd been ill - were both in the lineup. - Boston Herald

Defenceman Chris Butler missed his fifth game with an ankle ailment on Saturday. - Buffalo News

The Flames had an unscheduled practice Saturday morning after a less than stellar effort against the Wild Friday night. It was an up-tempo practice but nothing out of the ordinary. Defenceman Adam Pardy (wrist) skated on his own. - TSN

After a sterling performance in Pittsburgh, Antti Niemi will be back between the pipes for the Blackhawks on Sunday. - Daily Herald Times

Winger Milan Hejduk will miss Saturday's game against the Calgary Flames with a knee injury. The team also will be without winger Marek Svatos, who is hampered by a groin injury. Head coach Joe Sacco said that both players are day-to-day. - The Canadian Press

Winger Fredrik Modin made his season debut on Saturday after missing nearly three months because of a sprained knee. He played 12 minutes, 16 seconds and had four shots. Winger Derek Dorsett will have surgery Monday on his broken left hand and is expected to miss four weeks. - Columbus Dispatch

Dominic Moore missed Saturday's game after injuring himself with his own stick Friday. Head coach Peter DeBoer said he was day-to-day and sustained no internal injuries from impaling himself on his stick. - Miami Herald

Winger Wayne Simmonds suffered a knee injury and will undergo surgery to remove cartilage from his left meniscus on Monday. Brad Richardson will take Simmonds' spot on the third line. Head coach Terry Murray says winger Ryan Smyth will miss the team's three-game trip that begins Monday in Vancouver but expects him to return on December 26 against Phoenix. - LA Daily News

Veteran Owen Nolan missed Saturday's game, his first of the season after missing 23 games last season, because of a leg injury. Nolan was bumped late in the second period Friday at Calgary and fell awkwardly. He said he doesn't think it's serious. - Star Tribune

Winger Jordin Tootoo suffered a foot injury Saturday, and the team is likely to find out Saturday how long he'll be out of action. Tootoo was struck by a shot in the right instep and limped off the ice immediately and headed straight to the locker room. Tootoo said it didn't appear that the foot was broken, but that an MRI has been scheduled for Saturday. - Tennessean

Rick DiPietro was expected to play all three periods for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday but he emerged from the locker room for the third period with a baseball cap and took a seat on the bench. DiPietro is expected to make one final start for the Sound Tigers on Tuesday before rejoining the Islanders. - Newsday

Goaltender Semyon Varlamov, who suffered a strained groin muscle on Monday, has been placed on injured reserve. That means he cannot return until Tuesday at the earliest, though head coach Bruce Boudreau said the rookie goalie could be out until Dec. 23. - Washington Post
