TSN's Ice Chips
Joffrey Lupul will have back surgery on Thursday and will be out 6-8 weeks. Defenceman James Wisnewski had a maintenance day on Wednesday but will play. - TSN
Forward Teemu Selanne skated at practice Tuesday but will miss at least two more weeks with a broken hand. - LA Times
The Bruins placed Milan Lucic on injured reserve Tuesday to make room for Adam McQuaid and Andy Wozniewski. - Boston Globe
Sabres' forward Tomas Vanek was given a day off from practice Tuesday, however head coach Lindy Ruff said it was strictly a maintenance day and he should be fine to face the Senators on Wednesday. - Buffalo News
After leaving Sunday's victory over the Lightning with an eye injury, Blackhawks' sniper Patrick Kane expects to play Wednesday against the Blues. - Chicago Tribune
Milan Hejduk skated briefly Tuesday morning and the Avalanche hope he will be able to resume a full practice with the team on Thursday as he continues to recover from a knee injury. - Denver Post
Forward Petr Sykora has increased his workload this week as he attempts to return from a concussion. He was able to skate twice and did not suffer through headaches the following day. There is still no timetable for his return. - Star Tribune
Centre Jason Spezza will be out for 6-8 weeks after an MRI revealed a torn MCL in his right knee. Spezza suffered the injury during in Monday's loss to the Leafs. Forward Josh Hennessy was recalled on an emergency basis from the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators to replace Spezza.
Nick Foligno did not take the morning skate Wednesday. He is out indefinitely with a lower body injury.
Head coach Cory Clouston hopes to have both goaltender Pascal Leclaire and forward Chris Neil back in time for the Sens’ December 23rd game against the Penguins. Both players are skating on their own prior to practice, however Clouston hopes both will be able to skate with the team over the next few days. - TSN
The team claimed G Michael Leighton off waivers from the Hurricanes on Tuesday. - TSN
Defenceman Ed Jovanovski will return to the Coyotes lineup tonight against the Maple Leafs having served his two game suspension. He will likely take the spot of either David Schlemko or Sami Lepisto. - TSN
D Dan Boyle hopes four days between games will give his latest injury enough time to heal before the Sharks play again Thursday night. He was shaken up by a hit from Taylor Pyatt in a game against Phoenix on Saturday. - Contra Costa Times
As an attempt to send a message to his struggling team, Lightning head coach Rick Tocchet made veterans Alex Tanguay and Jeff Halpern healthy scratches Tuesday against the Predators. - Tampa Tribune
Goaltender Jonas Gustavsson was at Maple Leafs’ morning skate Wednesday and he is expected to play in one of the teams games this weekend, however head coach Ron Wilson would not confirm which game. The Leafs face the Sabres on Friday and the Bruins on Saturday. - TSN
