We've been screwed over in the past, and I will say that NHL officiating needs a serious kick in the ass. But the Ducks won the cup as the most penalized team in the league so it isn't like that's is what is keeping us from getting back towards the top of the West.

Not sure what you mean here, it wasnt the refs fault for any of these guys being hurt. Getzlaf cut himself, Lupul has been fighting back problems all year and Selanne was just one of those fluke accidents.

I dont think anyone here will say the rafs havent been bad, but the refs are not at fault for our injuries, lack of confidence maybe but thats about it.

The year we won the Cup, we had the most penalty minutes in the league, but it wasn't hurting us because we were 16th in going shorthanded. We didn't have to go on the PK that much.

But ever since, we have lead the league in having to play shorthanded... while receiving less PIM's.

That's a huge, huge, huge difference.

It's not the number of penalties or penalty minutes you receive that hurts you, it's going shorthanded.

As far as the officiating, the refs aren't biased against Anaheim, per se. They are coming down against play that slows the game down... which is exactly what the system the Ducks play does.

Hi dontgetit.gif

Maybe you don't get it..When Hockey Players get slightly teed-off ..They do things to the other team players as paybacks.Like the slashing incident to Bobby Ryan...In the eye, back a few games ago. He still carries the marks
Don't reply saying they aren't..tongue.gif
Because I watched Jones In the Nashville game.
He got teed and then he just got caught trying to be a pay back person..
The referees know this is going on..Yet they allow it.. Yes a lot of players get hurt ohmy.gif ..All on their own..
Why because they are playing fast board hitting puck hockey!!!!..Can be a very brutal game.
Whitney took it.. Last night puck in face yeoooow... But was out there again!!! Good for him:D

Selanne - blocked a shot with his hand and the puck hit him is just the right spot to break the bone. Not intentional.

Lupul - back problems and herniated disc. Not caused by anything external.

Getzlaf - falls awkwardly and catches himself with his own skate blade. Purely accidental.

Just a thought.

While it would be quite nice to blame the Ducks' losses and injuries on a conspiracy among the referees, it can't be done. The fact of the matter is that, yes, the refs have made some pretty bad calls but every team gets their fair share of crap calls. The Ducks just haven't been playing up to the level that we all know they can play at. They've oftentimes been very sloppy and have taken undisciplined penalties.
The refs aren't to blame for that or for the recent ailments that have befallen the Ducks. They didn't cut Getzlaf with his own skate, they didn't yank Selanne's hand broken, they didn't jump Lupul in the parking lot and beat him up so he'd have back problems, they didn't breathe in Eminger's water bottle so he'd be sick. These are just unlucky ailments. And as I said, every team gets their fair share of bad calls, but they have to play their best anyway. If you recall the Stanley Cup winning Ducks of the 2007, they had so many fluke calls made against them and it really did seem as though a conspiracy was among the referees but the Ducks came back and fought hard EVERY TIME and won themselves the Stanley Cup. There's no excuse for them not being able to do the same now.

Y'all pretty much know my opinion of the refs; but, and I hate to admit this rolleyes.gif , they are just as human and fallible and prone to making mistakes once in a while as I am. pinch.gif That admission really hurt. blink.gif

16th is still in the bottom half of the league. We also had the Pahlsson/R. Niedermayer/Moen/Marchant quartet of defensive minded forwards who were great killing penalties. We aren't as good killing penalties and we're getting caught shorthanded more because we aren't as good or resposnible defensively and in order to compensate we're making stupid mistakes, then the awful calls get more frustrating because we're already getting penalized so much.
