Forwards Jerred Smithson (hand), Jordin Tootoo (foot) and Martin Erat (knee) are out. Coach Barry Trotz says that Erat will be sidelined for one more week at most, if all goes well today. - Tennessean
Rick DiPietro's return to the Islanders may not be far away. The goalie was recalled by the team and will make the upcoming road trip. The team has yet to determine when or ifDiPietro will play on the three-game trip. He skated during practice yesterday. Goaltender Ray Emery continues to make strides, and Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren hinted yesterday that the goalie could be activated this weekend. Forward Keith Tkachuk lost several teeth, but he managed to score a goal in doing so. The puck deflected in off Tkachuk's mouth. He required extensive dental work and needed stitches to cover a gash near his mouth. He didn't practice Monday, when the Blues returned to the ice. Payne said Monday that it was too soon to know if Tkachuk will make the trip to San Jose with the Blues today. - St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Defenceman Matt Walker (lower body) practiced and has been cleared to return, but coach Rick Tocchet said he'll have to wait his turn since the team is rolling along well. He is reportedly in Toronto now. Centre Pavol Demitra is two weeks away from playing, and is hoping to get in 10 games before the Olympics. Ryan Johnson has a fracture in his foot and will go on LTI.
