TSN's Ice Chips
The Ducks returned centre MacGregor Sharp to the AHL. Sharp was recalled on Sunday in case Petteri Nokelainen could not play because of a bruised foot against Chicago. Forward Teemu Selanne missed his 14th straight game, but hopes to return from a broken hand later this week. - Orange County Register
Goalie Kari Lehtonen is getting close to returning to action, according to coach John Anderson. Lehtonen has not played this season after undergoing two back surgeries, the most recent one in October. His rehabilitation has picked up in the last week. - Atlanta Journal Constitution
Just two days after suffering three small fractures in his right thumb, Patrice Bergeron skated Wednesday with four other teammates. Bergeron can't move his thumb for 10-14 days, and said Wednesday that he'll be back in two weeks, so his spot on Team Canada "shouldn't be an issue." - CSNNE.com
Patrick Kaleta, who has missed the past three games and seven of the last nine because of injuries, could return to the lineup when the Sabres host the Lightning. Defenceman Nathan Paetsch, placed on waivers Monday, cleared and practiced with the team. Lindy Ruff said the team had not decided whether to send the veteran to Portland of the American Hockey League or keep him in Buffalo. - Buffalo News
The team granted forward Eric Staal a leave of absence following the death of his wife's sister. - Team Press Release
Defenceman Brett Clark will have a medical procedure on his injured right cheekbone, the team said Tuesday. Clark, who will miss a few days, suffered the injury last week after taking a slap shot to the face from Ottawa’s Alexei Kovalev. Clark will wear a full shield for more than a month upon his return. Right wing Marek Svatos (groin) did not practice Tuesday and won’t play tonight. - Denver Post
Johan Franzen, out with a torn ACL in his left knee since Oct. 8, skated in full pads with the team for the first time since his injury. Jason Williams (broken fibula), also out until the end of the month at the earliest, skated in a warm-up suit toward the end of practice. Henrik Zetterberg (shoulder) and Danny Cleary (shoulder) both are hopeful of returning Thursday in Los Angeles. - Detroit Free Press
Coach Pete DeBoer said Sunday night that he expected David Booth to return to the ice this season (he's been out since October 24), although he will no longer offer any type of a timeline because of the severity of the injury. Booth has been working out and skating since last month, and DeBoer said his skating time on the ice is up to nearly an hour. - Miami Herald
Forward Owen Nolan (leg) missed Tuesday’s game. He has not skated since Saturday’s game against New Jersey. - Star Tribune
Forward Martin Erat participated in the morning skate for the first time since suffering a strained knee last Tuesday at St. Louis. Coach Barry Trotz said Erat could return for Thursday’s game against Carolina, but Saturday’s game against Anaheim is more likely. - Tennessean
Right winger David Clarkson, who returned too soon from the fractured leg he suffered Nov. 27 in Boston, was placed on injured reserve Tuesday and will be sidelined at least another 2-3 weeks.- Star Ledger
Goalie Rick DiPietro may finally see playing time tonight; it would be his first appearance in a game since January 2009. - Newsday
Forward Vinny Prospal (knee) is out. Prospal, recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery Dec. 28, might travel with the team but has not been cleared to skate. - Newsday
Goalie Ray Emery has not played since Dec. 5 and is recovering from abdominal surgery. He is close to returning. Defenceman Ryan Parent (lower-body injury) will begin skating in a few days and should return to action in about two weeks. - Philadelphia Inquirer
Forward Chris Kunitz (abdominal muscle) will undergo surgery Wednesday and is expected to be out four to six weeks. For the third time this season, Penguins left wing Max Talbot was a healthy scratch. Penguins coach Dan Bylsma hinted that Talbot’s return from surgery has been difficult even though the operation was successful. Sergei Gonchar skated yesterday morning but still wasn’t healthy enough to participate against Atlanta. Bylsma continues to be optimistic regarding Gonchar’s return to the lineup and suggested it could come as early as Thursday against the Flyers. - Tribune Review
The Blues recalled forward Yan Stastny and goaltender Ben Bishop from Peoria on Tuesday. Bishop was recalled because Ty Conklin remained in St. Louis to care for his son, who suffered an injury. He is expected to rejoin the team on the trip. Forward Paul Kariya, who’s missed the last three games with a concussion-related injury, did travel to San Jose, but his status is questionable. Keith Tkachuk, who was hit in the mouth by a puck Saturday and lost several teeth, did not make the trip. He is considered day-to-day but is doubtful for any of the games on the West Coast. - St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Defenceman Matt Walker said he is "100 percent" recovered from his lower-body injury but has been told he'll have to "wait his turn" with the team playing well. Left wing Alex Tanguay missed practice with an intestinal disorder, the team said. Center Jeff Halpern (lower body) skated half of practice, and left wing Todd Fedoruk (knee) had off-ice workouts. - St. Petersburg Times
Kevin Bieksa has a severed tendon in his left leg just above the ankle and will be in a cast for six weeks. He will be out of the lineup for upwards of two to three months. Centre Pavol Demitra is two weeks away from playing, and is hoping to get in 10 games before the Olympics. Ryan Johnson has a fracture in his foot and will go on LTI. The team is hopeful Johnson will be skating in just over a week. - TSN
