clm.png Prospect Nikita Filatov reportedly told the media at the world junior championship that he would not return to Columbus unless changes in the organization were made, and many are assuming that was another shot at Ken Hitchcock. Hitchcock would not address the topic. GM Scott Howson said that he expects Filatov to report to training camp in September. - Columbus Dispatch

dal.png The Stars have lost centre Mike Ribeiro for 4-6 weeks with a throat injury. Ribeiro received an accidental high stick Wednesday from Rangers forward Christopher Higgins and stayed over in New York for a procedure and observation. He had a contusion on his throat and underwent a tracheotomy to reduce swelling and to allow him to breathe. - Dallas Morning News

det.png The Wings saw Henrik Zetterberg and Dan Cleary return from injuries the same night Tomas Holmstrom began a three- to four-week absence because of a non-displaced fracture in his foot. Holmstrom flew home to Detroit on Thursday morning. While he now joins an injured group that already included Johan Franzen (knee), Niklas Kronwall (knee), Jason Williams (fibula) and Jonathan Ericsson (knee. Ville Leino was inserted into the lineup in place of Holmstrom. - Detroit Free Press

edm.png D Lubomir Visnovsky, who sprained his ankle in the New Year's Eve game in Calgary, does not have a high sprain, which usually means a longer recovery time, but he still can't get his foot into his skate. - Edmonton Journal

flo.png David Booth isn't with the Panthers on their three-game road trip through Canada. Since being knocked out by Philadelphia's Mike Richards on Oct. 24, Booth is now training at Michigan State and working with a skating coach. Booth is expected to return to the ice this season, although no timeline is being offered because of the severity of the injury. - Miami Herald

Head coach Ron Wilson said Mike Komisarek will not play this weekend and isn't expected to play next week either. It's believed Komisarek is out with an injured shoulder. - AM 640 / TSN

nsh.png Steve Sullivan was injured on a hit by Andrew Alberts and left the game against the Hurricanes in the third period on Thursday. Head Coach Barry Trotz said he did not think it was too serious, but that Sullivan is doubtful for Saturday's game. The coach added it was an upper body injury, but not an issue with Sullivan's back. - TSN

nyi.png Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro will start for the Islanders tonight. It will be his first game since January of 2009; he has been out for more than a year after knee surgery. - NHL Live/Network

nyr.png Vinny Prospal skated on his own for nearly 40 minutes Thursday in Atlanta, his first time on the ice since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus Dec. 28. Prospal hopes to practice with his teammates today at Boston University. There's no official timetable for Prospal, who was initially ruled out for 10 days to three weeks, but it could still be another week. - Bergen Record

ott.png Milan Michalek (upper-body) is out indefinitely. The Sens have recalled Zack Smith and Martin St. Pierre from the AHL. - TSN

phi.png Sidelined since Dec. 5 by an abdominal injury, goalie Ray Emery said he was ready to return to action tomorrow against visiting Tampa Bay, but coach Peter Laviolette would not commit to the goaltender for the game. Claude Giroux, battling the flu, did not take the team flight Wednesday night but joined them yesterday and played last night. wsh.png Semyon Varlamov, sidelined since Dec. 7 with a groin muscle strain, revealed that he suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee Sunday during a rehab assignment with the minor league Hershey Bears. "Bad luck," said Varlamov, who has returned to Washington to receive treatment from the Capitals' trainers. - Washington Post
