Dave Bolland took a big step - and skate - in his recovery from back surgery, hitting the ice Tuesday for the first time since the Nov. 10 procedure to repair a herniated disc that has plagued him for two seasons. Bolland said he is on track to play before the Feb. 15 Olympics break. He will continue skating and could begin practicing during the eight-game road trip, which begins Saturday in Columbus. - Chicago Sun Times

col.png Defenceman Adam Foote is expected to be out one to two weeks with an ankle injury, suffered Saturday at Carolina. He was examined Monday by the medical staff and the prognosis was made - retroactive to Saturday. Defenceman Brett Clark (cheekbone) could be back on Saturday. - Denver Post

det.png The latest specialist to see Niklas Kronwall's gave the same assessment of his sprained MCL as every other doctor. "Everything is normal," said general manager Ken Holland. "No one is quite certain why he isn't doing better. So we're going to wait a few days, and if he's isn't feeling better by Monday, we'll have to find another specialist for him to see." Kronwall did tell trainers on Wednesday he was feeling a little better. - Detroit Free Press

Forward Jason Williams’ return is on the horizon. He suffered a broken right fibula Nov. 7 and has begun taking part in drills. - Detroit Free Press

edm.png Nikolai Khabibulin will undergo surgery Thursday in Los Angeles to repair a herniated disc. According to The Canadian Press he will be out indefinitely and there is no timeline for his recovery. - Edmonton Oilers Site/CP

mon.png Forward Sergei Kostitsyn has not been skating and will not play in games through this weekend. His ankle has not healed as quickly as expected and he remains day-to-day. - TSN

nj.png General manager Lou Lamoriello said injured right winger David Clarkson is not yet skating. The team is hoping he'll be back on skates by the end of the week. Clarkson played only two games after coming back from a fractured right leg. - Star Ledger

ott.png The Senators recalled goaltender Mike Brodeur on Thursday on an emergency basis. Brodeur, 26, made his NHL debut on Dec. 19, stopping 22 of 23 shots to earn his first career victory in Ottawa's 4-1 win over the Minnesota Wild. The Calgary native has appeared in 19 games this season with Binghamton, posting a 6-6-1 record with two shutouts, a 3.03 goals-against average and an .892 save percentage. - TSN

phi.png Danny Syvret (separated left shoulder) will be out for a month according to general manager Paul Holmgren. His spot in the lineup for the game Thursday against the Maple Leafs will be taken by Ole-Kristian Tollefsen (who had been out since Dec. 14 due to a knee injury). - Philadelphia Inquirer

Scott Hartnell (illness) and Chris Pronger (maintenance day) did not skate Wednesday, but both are expected to play against Toronto. - Philadelphia Daily News

stl.gif Forward Andy McDonald missed Tuesday's game against Columbus as he deals with a 'mid-body' issue, one that appears to be some type of hip or rib problem. Head coach Davis Payne said McDonald's absence was a bit of a preventative measure. - St. Louis Post-Dispatch

tmp.png Mike Smith is day-to-day with a neck strain, he is not expected to play Thursday against the Panthers. - St. Petersburg Times

In an attempt to add toughness for their game against the Flyers, the Maple Leafs recalled Jay Rosehill from the Marlies. In order to make room, Viktor Stalberg was been sent down to the AHL. - TSN

A little help from...

Montreal, Carolina, STL, and NJD would be nice... this of course and the Ducks can take care of their own business.

Dallas loses 5-3 in Montreal. The Ducks will have the opportunity to leapfrog them and climb out of the Pacific cellar.
