Chris Thorburn left after he was hit in the face by the puck 5:37 into the third period. Thorburn fell to the ice before heading to the locker room. He returned later in the period. After playing in 251 consecutive games, Slava Kozlov has now missed two in a row. He was a healthy scratch again Tuesday against Anaheim after his consecutive games streak was snapped Saturday at Tampa Bay. - Atlanta Journal Constitution

Steve Begin, who has missed the last four games because of a lower-body injury was one of three Bruins to skate yesterday at Ristuccia Arena. Begin, joined by Marc Savard and Byron Bitz made it through the session without significant limitations. Savard skated and reported continued progress on his injured right knee. - Boston Globe

The Flames have called up rookie centre Mikael Backlund from the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League. Backlund was drafted by the Flames in the 1st round (24th overall) in 2007. In 47 games played with the Heat, he has 10 goals and 12 assists with a minus- 5 rating. - TSN

Dave Bolland has rejoined the team and is practicing as his rehabilitation from surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back continues. Bolland hopes to return Feb. 3 when the Hawks host the Blues in their first game after their current eight-game trip. - Chicago Tribune

Ryan Wilson returned to practice Tuesday and might be available Thursday when Colorado hosts the Wild. Wilson, who was wearing an orange no-contact sweater, has missed two games since suffering a concussion Jan. 18 against Edmonton. Adam Foote also might return from the injured list Thursday. Tom Wandell will need surgery to repair the ACL in his left knee and will be out for the rest of the season, coach Marc Crawford said Tuesday. The most painful (except for our humiliation) is the Dalas win. The gap for a playoff spot just became a bit wider.
