Hockey doesnt matter right now, or ever, really. A kid, (he was younger than me), passes away, puts lots of things into perspective. Absolutley horrible news.

Brendan Burke, standing by the Stanley Cup, after his father won it all with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007.

Brendan says his family, including father Brian, has been completely supportive since he told them he was gay.

I don't know where or how, but I hope Brian Burke and his family are able to find some peace and comfort. Perhaps we can all honor Brendan Burke by pausing and thinking for a second before we allow or preconceptions, biases and the like actually come out of our mouths or even enter our minds.

I really hated how his sexual preference was made into a big deal during a slow news week. Like Brian said, it really shouldn't have been a story. Although I found it really touching to read about Brian taking his son to a gay pride parade. It made me think twice the next time I thought about bad mouthing him.
I wish there was a way that this sort of thing couldn't happen, but what are you going to do? Change the weather, suddenly make it safer to drive in snow or rain?

<Toronto Sun>
"As most of you know, Brendan was a part of ‘The Brotherhood,’ working with the Miami hockey program as a student manager,” it said. “No matter your point of view on things, please keep the Burke family in your thoughts.”
<Toronto Star>
Deepest sympathies to the Burke and Reedy families and friends. What terrible losses.

Heartfelt condolences to the Reedy family, who lost their son Mark in the accident, as well.
What a day of sorrow for those two families.

They actually tried to do that at Staples today before the DET game.
